when i was younger, i used to run red lights when folks were waiting, but as i got older i realized how that action polarizes drivers opinions of cyclists, so i no longer do that.

Actually the reason I asked is because a driver did that to me today. A firefighter actually. You could tell because of the decal on his truck and his uniform. Had I not been on the way to work I'd have followed him to his station down the block and had a chat with him.

Strava had my weight as 95 kg- I have bumped that up to 100.

What was the route like? Flat, hilly, etc? I am think that Strava might take that into account, and without heart-rate, it would be difficult to gauge your physical exertion.

I guess my ultimate take on filtering is this: The potential exists for a driver to get all pissed off at you doing something legal, potentially leading to them doing something really stupid that could end up with you getting injured or worse. I ride my bike to enjoy my commute, so if that means more often than not I'm hanging back at a red light a few car lengths back so be it.

Yesterday on my ride home I ended up getting a flat tire. I was able to limp home stopping along the way to get air a few times. I had thought of getting a pump for my bike, what do you guys think of this pump?

For anybody following me on Strava, the reason for my close call was my detour down 114 ave SE. I started by riding on the road, but pickup trucks being drive by guys with white Oakleys were whizzing by me with inches to spare. I ended up riding along the sidewalk, and then back onto the road as I approached the casino. I had a lady not stop to execute a right turn on red, and it was only by me screaming like a little girl that caused her to stop; once again close enough that she thought she had actually hit me.

Thats kind of pricy for a pump, no? I just have this one from MEC, and I just pump until the tire feels inflated enough.

Inflator, catrtridge, 2x tire levers, multi tool, tube all fit in a little pouch under the saddle.

I was curious about those. How much control do you have with the inflator? No worries about overinflating and popping the inner tube? And does the CO2 cartridge leak once you've fitted it on?

the first time i used it it was full power and scared the #### out of me, but it didn't pop the tube. after you do it the first time it is easy to control the flow.


no it doesn't leak once you have fitted it, but i'm not sure you can save it for later, i think they are kind of a one shot deal. but maybe if you needed to use it to hobble home from a larger leak you could use it for a little while.


I just carry a spare tube with me so i swap out the tube and use the inflator to pump up the new tube, so don't have to worry about reinflating multiple times.


If you commute or do a bunch of short city rides, i'm pretty comfortable with the inflator. if you do a lot of long distance rides a bump might be a better solution as you never run out of air.

Yeah, I go (a little) out of the way to use the separated bike lanes just because it’s more relaxing than driving in traffic. I use the (non/separated) bike lane along 11th st, and had someone nearly plow into me going around another car that was turning left. They were just a bad driver, but if I can avoid people like that as much as possible, I do.

Depends on the model, I have a little Planet Bike one that has a valve on it so you can control the flow. Others seem to be simple on/off affairs. I typically just use it in a pinch if I need to fill a tire to get back home though, maybe it's something else at play but I find the gas doesn't keep the tube inflated as consistently as with a pump.

Also for the love of god make sure the canister has some kind of a sleeve on it, you'll freeze your fingers right off handling it with your bare hands.

The c02 should be removed from the tube once you are home and refilled with a normal pump, C02 does not last as you have stated, it's just a band aid fix for a few hours.

It's actually weird they use CO2. Nitrogen would make more sense.

To liquify the gas requires a much higher pressure for Nitrogen compared to CO2

This might be a good option as it allows you to pump and use cartridges with one device. I carried cartridges and pump when I commuted. If you get a second flat you can patch and then pump.

Whipped cream dispensers use NO2 in the same form factor as the CO2. Though, I don’t know if it works as well as straight N2 for inflating a tire.

Love the design. I have a Lezyne which uses the threaded connection. Works really well. Seems like this is about $10 cheaper for a similar design. Rated well on Outdoor gear lab too.

My wife got a trail-a-bike for me for Father’s Day. I put it on last night and went to my daughter’s soccer tonight. My bike got knocked over and must have bent my rear derailleur a bit. Started riding and heading up the hill on Bridge Crescent and shifted to get more torque when suddenly an awful sound and my bike just stopped dead.

The derailleur had gotten stuck in my spokes.
