Yeah, after seeing those pictures on the Lids website linked on the Reddit thread I may have to eat some crow. They definitely look fake.

I honestly thought he was doing a Springs1-type troll on us when I posted. The reason was the random caps, multiple exclamation points and the enthusiasm for an unusual topic. I'm not a sports guy so the concept of a "fake" shirt is completely foreign to me, so I didn't pick up on the relevance to the forum in the way you've explained.

I just checked OP's posting history, and sure enough, dude is all about capitalization and jerseys. Sorry OP.

When I hear “fake” I think knockoff brand stuff that you order from China (example: the ketchup and mustard knock off heritage jerseys).

 Thanks for the heads up.

(OP is also in Edmonton... so I just figured they were starting to lose it a bit).

i believe the only way to authenticate a macgyver shirt would be to send it away for dna testing. you'll get no results on the duct tape, bubble gum wrappers and paperclips.... but there hopefully will be enough saliva in the chewed bubble gum to be the smoking gun!
on topic - i do have a couple of chiefs jerseys and they are from madbrothers. also - that spaceballs jersey is awesome! ha! ha!

I do know some places create movie-themed jerseys. I bought my brother a "Spaceballs: The Hockey Jersey". Is that what you're talking about? It's kind of a grey area whether these violate trademarks but I don't think they can be called counterfeit.

It looks like they are skirting around the TM violations. Actual Happy Gilmore jersey, as in the film:
What Headgear Classics is selling:

The "fake" has no actual Boston Bruins logo. It just says "Boston". There's nothing to stop someone from coming up with their design on a jersey that is Boston themed, and then slapping Gilmore on the back. So it's not really "counterfeit". But yeah, you'd hope a major retailer wouldn't sell that crap.

One would think they would at least be bothered to but the "BOSTON" Logo on straight...

BUYER BEWARE!! Jersey City and Lids selling FAKE MOVIE JERSEYS!

With that being the “logo” I suppose the Happy Gilmore jersey is “legitimate” in that it tiptoes around the Trademark laws...
Unless the Copyright or TM for the SlapShot movie have expired, the Cheifs jerseys are not being produced legally.

Whether these jerseys are counterfeit or not...it is certain that “Headgear Classics” is using the Chinese factories that produce fakes to make their products. The material and quality is identical to the fakes.

Here is some pics of the Authentic MadBrothers version available at hockeyjerseysdirect.com

I contacted Lids on Friday afternoon, still awaiting to hear a reply (other than the “our agents will be in touch with you in the next 24 to 48 hours”. I point blank told them that they have fake merchandise in their stores...

Yeah that is pretty bad. Pretty bush league of a store like Lids to carry jerseys that are that poor of quality.

You might actually get better results contacting whoever owns the IP to the Slap Shot movie. A cease and desist letter from them will probably be good enough to get Lids to pull all of this merchandise from their store.
