GGs Vegas, they def earned it, but, damn, Hellebuyck will be haunted by this series all off season.
Still, an amazing ride. Everyone and their mother picked Winnipeg to finish in the basement or near the basement of the central and instead we got the 1st Western Conference Finals in Winnipeg NHL history. What a year! Bring on the Bombers and the Jets will be back!

This league is such a joke. I don't know why I still care.

I think it shows that a team that essentially consists on average of the ~13th best NHL-calibre player from each team can be competitive.
It's a simplistic view, and Fleury and Neal are definitely better than that. Not to mention a few trades were had - however, top to bottom they have NHL quality players.

Having watched Vegas in the regular season I thought with the style they play they could have success in the playoffs. However didn't think it would actually happen. I don't like that Vegas is in the finals but it's a remarkable story.

now that is an interesting revisionist history
would Flames fans have traded Tkachuk+ for Fleury?

Would be really fun for Vegas residents and Canadians, though. Maybe we could see a documentary, there's probably enough content for that.

God no. Maybe a 25 year old Fleury but even then probably not.

Hellebuyck made a few mistakes sure, but he was also the only Jet player playing in the 3rd period with the season on the line.
I don't believe the gassed part. Going by the comments that the Jets players gave after the last couple games, I think they got caught up in their own hype and weren't willing to work for the win.
"Oh Vegas is just lucky"
"No way that cinderella story can keep going"
"9x out of 10 we win"
Almost as if they felt they were owed the series.

What? People have been saying the Jets will be good for years. Your team has underperformed big time before this season, you got Laine and still missed the playoffs the next season. The Jets finally played to their potential after years of underperforming.

I admit, working nights, I hadn't watch a lot of playoff hockey, and even today, I didn't finish the yard work in time to see much of the game. What I DID see was the last 5 minutes of this game, and absolutely despised the way the referees "let 'em play". The Jet puck carriers were slashed mercilessly. If the Jets dumped in their zone entry, the guy in puck pursuit was knocked 10 feet out of his path, when he was still 20 feet from the puck. The Knights were even allowed to tackle a guy on a zone exit. This is NOT acceptable, and I had NO rooting interest in the game. If the NHL wants "skill" then, they can't allow the playoffs to be called like the 1980's.

Fleury was great, he's a part of the team. The better team won.

Its impressive, but not up there with the college kids that beat the Soviet Union and won gold in 1980, or a provincial team like Leicester city with a budget one forth of Chelsea winning the EPL.
If Vegas had a payroll of 19 million and not gifted a bunch of top flight players it would be a different story. Also, they still have to win, this will all come to nothing if they lose in the next round.

Nope...
Calgary wasn't going to give up the 6th straight up for Fleury imo... a mid to late first? maybe... but MAF was definitely a guy that was looking to be past his prime during that time.

The biggest takeaway for me is how much young talent is out there that can flourish under the right conditions.
I bet the big change we see from Vegas' run is GM's moving away from making young, skilled prospects earn there way past aging vets and instead giving more opportunity, but with more demand to play their best.

Meh.
Whining about the reffing is expected from the fans of every team, but also completely a moot point since it is equally bad across the board.
The Jets slashed as much as the Knights did. At the end of the day it doesn't make up for basically not trying anymore.
