Yeah here is Shapovalov's breakdown

https://www.atpworldtour.com/en/play...ings-breakdown

He will gain all points from Rome and Roland Garros.

Then in June/July he's got a few small events to defend

Gatineau, Granby and Queens

Gatineau and Granby will be replaced by the ATP 250 event of his choice.

Wow, all of those R64s at 1000 events are sure ripe for the picking later this year. Even a modest improvement at each event would result in a pretty sizable bump up the rankings.

He does have some points to defend in Toronto and the US open but beyond that he should end the year inside the top 15 if he continues on his current trajectory.

Not a good 1st set from Denis, losing 6-1.

Berdych is absolutely pummeling the Shapovalov 2nd serve. Denis has only won 2/11 second service points through the first two sets. Unless this changes in a hurry it will be a miracle if he can pull it off today.

What the heck kind of draw is this? The #18 and #28 ranked players are playing in the first round? Just weird. I assume they must have set it before Madrid.

Was about an inch from having three break points and probably serving for the set. Too bad. Now the pressure is on. Denis's service games have been pretty easy holds this set. We'll see if Berdych steps it up now.

Edit: as predicted, Berdych is much more aggressive this game.

Denis wins! It got close for a minute there.

Yes sir, up 5-2 in the tie-breaker and Berdych rolled off three straight, but he played two fine points to take the match.

36 winners for Denis compared to only 10 for Berdych, however twice as many unforced errors (52 to 26).

And that win officially means Denis supplants Milos as the Canadian #1.

Low and behold the second serve improves to the tune of a respectable 10/19 in set 3 as well.

Very impressive win to come back from a set down against Berdych. Here's hoping he beats a much easier opponent in Haase and gets a crack at Rafa in the third round.

Note - Denis just passed Milos to take over the number 1 Canadian spot at #26 in the world!

I am really impressed with where Denis's return game has got to. Berdych is no slouch on serve, and he got basically zero free points in the third set. Even the game he held at love, Denis got nearly everything back and made him play the points. That's going to translate to success for him, especially in five set matches, if he can settle things down on his own serve.

That was really the problem. Particularly when things get tense, you get the sense that anything can happen. He's definitely gotten his second serve under control to the point where at least he's not double faulting nearly as much anymore - progress for sure - but he missed a bunch of first serves towards the end of that third set and during the tiebreaker after going up 4-0.
