Any situation that doesn't involve being knocked out from the moment you fell doesn't make sense. I bet that bathroom doesn't go more than 15 hours straight without being used.

I'm not very familiar with commercial construction, but in residential, sometimes there is a utility wall to accommodate plumbing (such as up against an exterior wall). I could see perhaps a utility void if maybe a men's and women's washroom were back to back. Such a void would not be very wide, I would think. Maybe a foot. Probably just barely enough for a person to get in to, and have a hell of a time getting out of.

The news said a maintenance guy found him when he went to fix a toilet which wasn't flushing.

So, I think he probably removed that metal plate thingy to access the electrical or the sensor. Then.... surprise! Gross.

I would guess he died of asphyxiation from having his chest solidly compressed in a tight immovable space. The classic examples are burglars found in chimneys.

Sounds like an awful way to go. Imagine being in total darkness unable to yell loudly for help as you slowly suffocate, while the last things you hear and smell are mall patrons repeatedly defecating 1 foot from your face.

It's very likely there is a void space behind the toilets. Wall mounted toilets require space for the tanks within the walls. The void space could also be used to run plumbing lines which could be a decent size in a large commercial building. That said the void could be around 12". So certainly plausible for a situation you are describing.

As morbid as the story ends, this is absolutely fascinating if true. I have no interest in seeing these alleged pictures, but it would be very intriguing to hear much more about the who/what/how of this man in the box.

I can't imagine it's big enough for a piano. How did he get it through the hatch? Are there safe versions of these pictures anywhere?

Certainly, it's pretty easy. People get fed up with their 'current life' and up and leave [situation] rather frequently. Calgary has roughly 10 people reported Missing a day,

Most of those start with "They didn't come home at the proper time."

When the investigation would get around to work, it'd most likely ask people when they last saw the person involved. "I saw him around noon, but not after. He usually says goodbye to me, but not always. He was having a rough day, may have just left to go to the bar or something."

People storm out of work all the time. It's also not a crime to be "Missing" and to take off and start everything over (usually).

It'd be a long time before, if ever, the investigation got around to "Did he accidentally drop into a wall and die." He'd most likely be found by the building maintenance staff before then...which would solve the investigation.

Let me address this one.

- The cat thread was started by somebody (understandably) upset after having been an active participant in the cat's death.
- We had several reported posts about the cat "jokes" so we were able to address it quicker.
- Nobody has reported any posts in this thread. So the first I saw of the posts were this morning. Not sure if/when any other mods saw them. Sometimes I see a post and think it's a little off colour, but it's late at night, nobody else has reported them, and the tread seems to be somewhat self moderating.

Bottom line, I don't think those posts are appropriate. For here at least. However now we have to ask, do I spend the next 15 minutes going through posts and deleting them? What about the replies and/or the self moderation? Or do I spend the last 15 minutes of my lunch break going into a thread where somebody has asked for advice on a subject that I have some experience?

Now that you mention it, my uncle disappeared on my aunt and cousin 35 years ago without telling her he had gambled away all their money. Two days later, bailiffs showed up and foreclosed the house. My aunt had no idea. 10 years later, my mom ran in to him at a pub and gave him hell. Too bad he didn't fall in a wall.
