Your hate is misguided. It's not the Flames that have priced you out it's the league as the Flames are on the low side of average NHL ticket prices and only Ottawa is cheaper of the Canadian teams.

With the death of televised sports in their current form soon approaching, teams will need to do more of this.

Similar to the side of screen adds, IF this is done to reduce commercials I am all for it.

For sports to survive they are going to have to get the games done faster (and the only real way to do this is to remove commercials)

The length of the game is as big a problem as the cost of tickets. As much as a Flames ticket isn't affordable for some, there are more then enough people who can easily afford it, and with every game on TV I don't think it effects attracting the youth that much.

The bigger issue is the youth don't want to sit for 3 hours watching a game (And neither do the adults)

Cut out commercials, cut down the intermission, and I don't care where you put advertisements!

That's a ticket reseller. Those prices shown are the "list" price for tickets on their site and have nothing to do with the actual ticket prices charged by the teams.

Also, because they're the list prices of currently unsold seats, they don't relate to the price that anyone actually paid for those tickets.


I know when I had season tickets, I would often list tickets to certain high-demand games on StubHub and the Ticketmaster resale site at an outrageously high price. If they sold (which they usually didn't do), I'd gladly take the money. If they didn't sell, I'd gladly go to the game.

That's why looking at a ticket reseller's PR about "average" ticket prices is really pointless.

This is a league that just had playoff games on the golf channel, so I don't see a whole lot of options for them. I'm not big on advertisements either, but when it comes to making money there's few other concessions I think most are willing to make. Ticket prices going up would be a lot worse. Food/drink prices are already laughable league-wide (although hopefully the Atlanta Falcons making more money with cheaper food is an experiment other teams pay attention to).

Sports are in tough. The more we learn about what high impact sports can do to people, the more that aspect of sport gets minimized, ruining it for people who rank that high on their list of importance. We also have more entertainment options... the days of renting a single movie are over and we can now watch damn near anything we want, whenever we want it, for free (if so inclined). Even when I go to games as soon as the whistle blows I'm on my phone because it's infinitely more interesting than a kiss cam.

Ads suck, but I see no other way.

As I just mentioned, what about controlling costs, like ever increasing salaries? Is there a shortage of young people looknig to become NHL players because the salaries are to low? If sports are coming to a moment of reckoning, maybe they should acknowledge this end of the equation.

The point is that the Flames are not the highest priced tickets in the league so my statement regarding the league pricing him out of games (not the Flames) still stands. Professional sports are expensive to attend so as with any consumer good or entertainment service you either can afford it or you can't but don't blame the Flames for pricing their tickets in line with the rest of the league.

You guys are all absolutely ridiculous. Who cares about any of this stuff. Would you prefer they don't monetize their instagram post? Does the advertising on transaction alerts upset you?


The NBA put logos on their jerseys and they are barely noticeable and no one seems to give a crap.

Keep the ice surface clean.

I can see home ice teams putting black or dark ads on the visitors side of the ice. That's a huge space where the puck can pretty much vanish.

I have honestly become completely numb to any sort of advertising at hockey games. Each power play or time out or hit of the game etc is brought to me by a company that I have instantly forgotten the millisecond the announcer has finished saying it.

It's just so saturated my brain has given up on trying to parse through the noise.

If there are ads on the ice I will watch the game and forget each and every company that has paid top dollar to put their ads there.

Yeah. I don't even know how effective commercials and advertising are these days seeing how much information overload the average person receives on a daily basis on the internet and television.

I could care less. Looking back at the rink pre-adverstising on boards, I find that I like the look of the boards now. Advertise all you want on the rink, but just make it look nice. Put Pepsi circles on the faceoff dots. Just like naming the building, it doesn't really matter. But leave the jerseys alone.

And your ticket price probably stays the same, but it does mean that teams have better revenue streams. Big markets have the most to gain...

Huh? Soccer jerseys are a terrible example. You can't even tell which team they belong to most of the time now, especially since they change them so often now.

Bury products like cars in the ice.

I would like to see a funeral home advertisement where they bury bodies in the corners. New Jersey would make a fortune with ads for the mafia run sanitation companies.

You would think that they could use holographic technology so that people watching at home could see it while people at the game and the players wouldn't.
