Serious Question: Could Babcock coach a team spending 10-15 million dollars than everyone else (Atlantic Division) and be successful?
Friedman says he talked with a couple guys from around the league who told him that in that division, if your team is spending ten to fifteen million fewer dollars than everyone else, how can you compete?
I want(ed) Vigneault, but I'm not totally upset by this choice...yet.

Win: Bill Peters leaves Carolina Hurricanes so they can make the playoffs next year.
Win: Calgary Flames hire Bill Peters and we already have this quote available so we don't have to think up a new one when we miss the playoffs next year.
Maybe it's just me with all of your "memes" but can you settle it down with the doom and gloom. It's like Bill Peters somehow personally wronged you or something. Just relax and see how all of this unfolds. I understand that patience is wearing thin for fans due to the inconsistency of the team but the Flames ultimate goal here is to win and if they choose Peters as the head coach, that means they believe he can help us down that path.

They would implement a different system than the boring GG like system Peters will bring in... May not make us a playoff lock but it sure as hell will be less depressing to watch
Is this based on your viewing of the Canes under Peters or just an assumption based on the numbers?
Could be sample size bias, but the 5/6 times a year I've watched the Canes under Peters I've never found them boring. They are quick.

I'm on the fence if it's Peters. He hasn't had a ton to work with in Carolina. Darling pretty much singlehandedly torpedoed their season this year. In 43 games he posted an .888 save percentage - which is a bit better than Hiller's .879 a couple of years ago - but Darling played nearly twice as many games. Kind of amazing the Hurricanes won as many games as they did.

15 million, eh?
It would be like if you removed from the Flames:
Brouwer
Stajan
Frolik
Stone
Could you compete here without those guys?
Probably not, with all the dancing CP would be doing.

Sheesh guys. Nobody's even been hired yet. There wasn't this much dissent when Gulutzan was hired and he's a guy no team was interviewing or interested in. At least teams have legit interest in Peters. There's virtually zero chance that the team isn't better next season regardless of who the coach ends up including Peters. Just be glad we got the coaching change most of us wanted because a week ago many were panicking that there wasn't going to be any change.

its based on the handful of articles i've read, all the media opinion and statements that he plays a similar system to GG, a couple of games i've watched with them playing randomly on the centre ice
Basically they do the same frustrating D to D back pass that drove me nuts all season while watching teams with worse D corps than ours move the puck quickly and attack on the fly.
theres just way more red flags than you'd have with an established coach like Darryl or AV
I would be WAAAAAAY more comfortable with this hire if i could read even a single article or quote where it says he adapts his systems to the roster he is given. but I haven't and it seems hes gonna be another square peg round hole coach
Next two seasons we win a total of 35 games.
Finish last in the league and lose the lottery both times.
Panic in season trades to get rid of all our best players.
Move the team to Houston so that Edwards can pocket $700M.
Houston Thunder wins back to back Stanley Cups in 2022, 2023.
Some people want the best thing for their team, there is a reason AV commands $4m and BP commands $400k.
Maybe someday BP will command bigger bucks due to his success, but after having some cheaper and off the board coaching picks fans want something a little more certain.
