Already one missed opportunity with Gallant. This better not be round two.

Well think about it if the Flames don't find success next year atleast we know Treliving will get turfed.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Pretty much Peters was the only guy I didn't want, well outside of Eakins as well but that was an obvious joke.

Did we ever have a chance to hire Gallant? Was that a rumor at one point?

His opinion is completely irrelevant. As is any "on record" opinion from other NHL coaches or executives.

You brought Friedman's opinion up in the first place!

In fairness, this season was itself an outlier. The correlations are usually stronger. Not perfect. Not infallable. But stronger.
Of course, the thing about the Hurricanes under Peters is that they were consistently an outlier. That's concerning.

You are taking the early part of both those guy's careers. What has the trend been recently?
The reverse is, Gulutzan's great record was the early part of his career and it's been trending down ever since. We gave Gulutzan the benefit of doubt with regards to his record in Dallas, just like teams gave Gallant and AV for their times in Columbus and Montreal, but both of those guys actually went out and turned their careers around before landing other head coaching gigs. Gulutzan didn't, he's been trending down since Dallas.
In what direction has Peter's teams been trending? How much stock do you put in the 2016 World Championships?

Again, me repeating what he says does not mean I believe it. I only brought it up for those that value that opinion. It was to reinforce my belief that I am not the only one struggling to see an upside in hiring this guy.

You say that like its a good thing.
I am ####ing tired of the Flames sucking. I want to be good for the next 10 years and not hope every year we squeak into the playoffs.

No, his name was just being tossed around after the abysmal start to Gulutzan's first season with us and Florida scumbagging it up and leaving him on the street to catch a cab.
I believe the only other names the Flames were actually in discussions with before settling with Gulutzan were Carlyle and one other - Todd Reirden?

I'm willing to give Peters a chance if it's true. I don't know enough about him to throw the guy under a bus...missing the playoffs 4 yrs in a row is concerning - they did appear to play with hella speed and hard forechecking when we played them tho - I remember being quite impressed actually.
I initially voted AV which makes me feel dirty because I still remember the diving tactics and hard lean on veterans - there's something about him that stinks despite his resume. I'm not sure our roster is suited for neither him or Sutter.
That being said, there's nothing too exciting about Bill Peters

Sorry but the Canes team with their young blueline, and young forwards are not that much worse than the Flames. So I am not convinced he will be much better here.

I plan to work myself up into a frothy lather over our impending Kansas six of a coach. Peters for life, ride or die.

Taking a while to get to 5000

My biggest complaints with GG were always that the team was dull and he didn't dhow a lot of life on the bench or in interviews. Superficial stuff, really. Those will be changed immediately. Not my first pick or even my second but I'l on board. I can't see how this team will be worse. Between this and the likely personnel moves I'm excited for whats to come.

The bigger worry for me is that Peter's defenders point to poor goaltending as the reason the Canes failed.
Smith and the backups, don't inspire a whole lot of confidence for me. Smith when he is on can be great. But he is kind of inconsistent and he's also getting up there in age and susceptible to breaking down. Gillies and Rittich don't appear ready to be a no. 1.

It it's Peters I'm more then willing to give him a chance too.
But I will be so goddamn upset if things don't work out, and we had a chance to hire Sutter, AV and a bunch of other proven veteran coaches who we could of had. Very upset. Elite coaches like them manage to hold their jobs for much longer then other coaches do. I doubt we see crop of ''free-agent'' coaches like this who are available simultaneously for a long time. Huge gamble by Treliving. Huge.
At least the off-season will be interesting and active on CP with a ton of bickering back and forth about whether it was the right decision or not.

Also you would think the coaches job is to get more out of the roster than people would assume. Did he move that Carolina team forward in any way? What exactly did he accomplish there that warrants this level of interest in his services?
