Like midniteowl, I like the Sutter variation. Keefe for PP/creativity, Hunter for PK/structure, Sutter for attitude/confidence/work ethic.

AV would be a reasonable choice, too, I like how he took the Sedins to the next level, maybe he could do the same for Gaudreau/Monahan/Bennett.

Are you meaning DS and AV would co-coach? I personally doubt either would want to do that.

We will find out if the insistence on D pairings of RH/LH shot was coach or GM too. I want to at least see some new combos prior to a bunch of trades.

Any chance Playfair is back, at least as an assistant? There's an organizational connection but also one between Tre and him. Maybe he's the next Sullivan lol.

Let’s be honest, they were a playoff team in 2017, but they didn’t win a game. Does anyone really think had they made the playoffs this year that they were beating Vegas or Nashville?

He's probably not wrong in that it was their play after the all-star break that likely sealed his fate. That said while they were in the playoffs as a bottom seed, once the winning streak ended there's no guarantee he could have got the team playing at a high enough clip to maintain their position as when this team wasn't on a winning streak they were basically .500 over his two seasons. I'm not even 100% sure that he would have been back had they made the playoffs and been beaten soundly in the first round. Sounds like Treliving recognized that the decision making wasn't as good as it could have been and simply making the playoffs may have not been meeting expectations. Regardless it's not easy to see a good man lose his job and I hope he bounces back.

The way they finished post deadline/CBA break? Not a chance.

The way they played up until that time? They had a chance if only a small one.

I don't really care for his comments.

Yes, there were some injuries but every team faces those including 16 teams that made it to the playoffs this season.

For him to state that he lost his job simply because of a bad stretch after February is either disingenuous or clueless. The team got swept in the playoffs last season. Then the team under performed for most of this season. If it wasn't for one extended winning streak he may have been fired prior to February. Suggesting that making the playoffs and getting swept in the first round should be considered any type of success is erroneous.

Sorry Glen. You seem like a great guy but the reason you were fired is that you did a poor job coaching this team.

He wasn't wrong. I know CP has wanted him out for a while but I can almost guarantee you that if flames had sneaked into playoffs he wouldn't have been fired. The collapse after deadline is equal coaching and players fault.

Or maybe he has a better read on what would have happened than a bunch of people not involved day to day?

The team got swept last year, but played better against the Ducks than two years before, IMO. It was Elliott that did them in last year - they were the better team in 3/4 games at least. If they'd made the POs they would have been playing better than the last month which, IMO is skewing some people's memories of the whole year.

I'm not so sure. He talks like just making the playoffs two seasons in a row was good enough. I don't think he would have been hired in the first place if during his interview process he told Treliving that his goal was to do a good enough job just to sneak into the playoffs. I think he sold the GM higher expectations and he didn't deliver. I also think Treliving is a smart man and could see a lot of the same questionable decision making as the rest of us.

			Bob McKenzie@TSNBobMcKenzie
Interesting game of cat and mouse going on in CAR with head coach Bill Peters and owner Tom Dundon. Peters, for now, has option to leave CAR. Sense is Peters’ strong preference is to NOT return. He is a candidate in CGY/DAL and belief is the Albertan’s preference is to go home.

Bob McKenzie@TSNBobMcKenzie
But if Peters doesn’t use option to leave, if timing and/or prospects of CGY/DAL job don’t materialize during window, Peters may not be eager to walk away from CAR with $ (one year) still on table. May prefer to be fired, but Dundon doesn’t like firing, prefers reassigning.

Yeah good guy and I feel for him but comes across as a bit tone deaf.

He lost his job because the flames NEVER showed up in games that mattered under him. Swept in the playoffs. Owned by the oilers without a fight. Lost key games down the stretch this year with no battle.

He lost because he couldn't get this team to go to war. They played a decent if boring system with little emotion and mostly won games on nights when both teams were dispassionate/flat. Whenever the going got tough they folded.

Jesus Christ is he ever delusional.

The fact that he seems to think the only real problem was one bad month really only underscores why he lost his job.

He can make excuses and blame injuries all he wants. This team's stars were healthy the first five months and he did nothing with it. "We were going to the playoffs"? We were on the outside looking in for most of the season, and it took a combined seven game winning streak and Kings' six game losing streak just to briefly pull in. Only for the patented Glen Gulutzan Late Season Swoon to kick in.

It sounded to me like he was blaming his departure off the last half of the year and not his tenure overall. Granted the last half of this past season sealed his fate, you know his time in Calgary overall was taken into consideration. If he thinks it was only the last half of this season, he's mistaken and blind to what the overall issues were. My opinion.

After reading that article, it's even more apparent that Tre made the right decision.
