No, cardboard boxes go in the blue bin. The bubble wrap padded envelopes Amazon uses sometimes go in the garbage.

Waste and Recycling is presenting to council today, apparently in June they will bring a proposal to council that will include variable black cart sizes (and pricing options based on that).

I'd easily drop down to a black bin 3/4 the size of the current one and stay with pickup every two weeks.

Why does the size of the cart matter? Is there something more satisfying about mostly filling a smaller cart than barely filling a larger cart?? The amount of garbage doesn’t change.

It's hard because a lot of time I could have a way reduced black cart, but then I was doing some work in my house and could've used an extra black cart entirely.

I thought the price was a decreased one-time cost. My bins are still all in good shape. Doesn’t everybody short of new home owners have all 3 already?

They should just give everybody a discount and pick up the black bins on a monthly schedule.

The problem is not everyone can get away with a monthly pickup, or a smaller bin. Big families may need a bigger bin or more frequent pickup. And they can't selectively pick up bins from certain houses, say you pay for monthly and your neighbour weekly. It would get to complicated. So an option for a smaller, bi-weekly black bin does make sense. Except for my garage construction waste....but there is always the neighbour's bin for that.

YOU! I went out one day last summer to put my nice big paper bag of leaves in my green bin to find it filled with sawdust from one of the neighbours. Checked a couple other neighbour's green bins to see see how far this jackarse neighbour went, and there was 5 neighbours green bins full of sawdust.

I was just kidding. I had about 5 huge bags, and put them in my black bin every other week until they were gone. Construction waste doesn't stink, so it's ok to keep around for awhile...

I mean, I could have just gone to the dump, but who wants to go to a place that reminds them of Edmonton?

I don't understand why they can't be the same size. Just put them out when you want them picked up. Since the black bin is every two weeks, it is the only one that I regularly put out. If the blue and green aren't full I don't bother to put them out that week. I have a larger family across the way and their bins are overflowing all the time. It even has gotten to the point that I have seen them rent a van from home depot to deal with their garbage and recycling if they didn't get it out in time or were away.

There really isn't one solution that will fit every household.

Which makes sense to have smaller bins if you have a smaller family. If you're in a large family making 10 bags of garbage, you should be paying more than a single bachelor that has 1 bag of garbage. Often with smaller garbage or less pickups I've seen people start to recycle or compost more.

Pretty easy in theory, but not always practical. Just seems to be the same planning model.

I don't even care so much about the costs, but a smaller black bin and green bin would give me more space in my garage. I need the full size blue bin though.
