List of preference:
1. AV
2. Trotz
3. Daryll (still doubt he'd entertain coming back)
4. A standard house cat (i.e whoever)

This is why it makes no sense to me.
Treliving probably doesn't have a whole lot of lives left. He had the triple goalie year, and the Gulatzan experiment. He's probably got one more coach. He's going to make Bill Peters that coach? When his job is riding on this decision? I just don't see it.
In my opinion, he'll get a lot more leeway if he hires a proven NHL coach and it doesn't work out than if he takes another chance on a guy and it doesn't work out. Just like he gets more leeway on Elliott ####ting the bed than the three headed goalie monster issue.
I don't think we see Peters.

Its never right to take joy in someone losing their job, but I can't help but feel relieved the Gulutzan era is over. Hopefully Treliving brings in an experienced coach with a history of winning.

Yeah holy noodles are there some P/Oed people. Just don't know how they'd be happy watching special teams absolutely kill the team for yet another year. Unless those unhappy for firing gully are oiler fans chiming in

Let's try to keep it classy and not celebrate a man losing his job. No matter the million(s) he made, still sucks for the guy and his family and I wish him the best in the future. Good guy by all accounts.
Having said that, coaches are hired to be fired. This was the right decision although I rue greatly the lost season. This should have happened in December and an interim brought in to at least try to save the season. Gulutzan did not have the answers and I think a change at the helm would have been a shot in the arm and this team could have made it.
I'm hoping for Coach V.
But I'm ok with any one of the veteran coaches available or that may become available (Trotz).

It seems that Bill Peters is very highly regarded in elite level hockey circles. He has had a lot of international success, and was one of the assistant coaches of Team Canada's entry at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Sharing a bench with Mike Babcock, Joel Quenneville, Barry Trotz, and Claude Julien appears like a pretty lofty accomplishment.

Any thoughts on Ownership not being willing to pay for a big time coach? Market for coaches has gotten expensive lately.

Freidman on the Fan960 mentioned he had connections with Treliving, and had an out clause in his contract for his last year (which expired this past weekend if I recall).

We have seen the unproven, cheap approach firsthand for a while now. Let's cut the crap and get ourselves an established, legit HC. Stop trying to find diamonds in the rough, and start bringing in a legit franchise changer.

Pending who makes up the next coaching staff, I'm really looking forward to next season. I still truly believe the Flames have a roster with a couple flaws, but largely the foundation of a contender. A coaching staff that coaches a modern tactical game plus has the ability to motivate the guys even a little bit, plus a couple prudent moves by Treliving, and the Flames should be flying next season.

There is a rumour in another thread that the Flames are one of two Canadian teams that have approached Peters about a head coaching job.

Yup.
Tre is on his last life here in Calgary. One more screw up with the team missing the playoffs/coaching struggles and he's outta here.
As much good as he's done for this team. He also has a bunch of warts on his resume here.
We're also wasting some prime contract years with Johnny/Mony/Dougie.

As much as the move was necessary I have to give well wishes to Gulutzan.
Truly the classiest coach we've had in some time. I have a lot of respect for him and it was never an easy situation given expectations that were in place before he arrived and having that Cameron designed PP anchor keeping them from the results they probably deserved on a lot of nights.
If not for Elliott they probably could have enjoyed some success last playoffs, as they were no worse than the Ducks outside of net minding. It just didn't work out this year and this group of players require a system that works more to their very particular strengths.

I wouldn't mind Tippett. His reputation got tarnished in Phoenix, but there wasn't anything boring about Dallas when he coached it. 97+ points 5 times in a row, never lost in the first round, some really high scoring seasons in there.
That said, would much prefer AV.
