It's actually very similar to the Flames this season, but to a greater extreme.

Can anyone comment on his style of play? Just these numbers and his non playoff streak make me reaally nervous

He is the same coach as GG, both pattern their tactics off Babcock. Bringing in Peters is shuffling chairs around the deck, you are going to get the same thing. I would rather keep GG, he has already built a relationship with the team and we still owe him a year. Why pay another coach to teach the same thing?

Completely agree. Fire Cameron though.

What evidence is there to suggest that GG is actually a great tactics coach? Are we just assuming that because he focuses a lot about advanced stats so we put him on some “smart guy” pedestal?
What if his Xs and Os are crap as well? Have we seen any great set plays? Has he offered any game insights that made you think he was a smart coach?
Plenty of stuff that made me shake my head though. Him getting pissy with reporters about point shots was the pinnacle of the stupidity he called a game plan.

The one thing I think Peters does have is a bit of a tougher personality.
So I think that could be what Treliving sees as a positive. A guy who believes in the style of play that Treliving wants, doesn't come in and completely change our structure, but also has a bit more of a rough edge to help keep the guys motivated.
I do think it GG gets fired thought that it likely goes down today.

There is the possibility that the system is just fine, but a different coach (including Peters) might be able to convey it better to the players, or get better buy in.

Taking a while to get to 5000

It would certainly lessen any potential learning curve.

Can someone tell me why the Flames would be looking at him other than the Alberta connection?
|
Look at their goaltending numbers the past 3 years. The Hurricanes have been a mid-80s point team the past three years while getting barely .900 save percentage goaltending. If they had got league average goaltending, they would've likely been playoff teams the past three seasons.
Peters is a solid coach who's gotten the worst goaltending in the league for 3 straight seasons. I would prefer AV myself, but given how a head coach can't really control how his goaltending performs, it's easy to see why the Flames would be interested.

Yep. And not sure what there is left to “process” for Treliving. He watched this train wreck all year and had plenty of time to think about it.
No mysteries to be solved here Brad.

Not when it comes to coaching, management, or architectural renderings.

They spend on management... I doubt they would have B.B. as POHO if they were on a tight budget.

I dont think its fair to judge Peters as a coach by just looking at numbers. How many Hurricanes games do each of us watch most years? Two? He wouldn't be my first choice but I would be curious to see what the Hurricanes fans have to say

I would replace Cameron with Paul MacLean, a guy who coached both Detroit's and Anaheim's PP's to very productive numbers. I have no idea who to hire for the defensive group but it should be someone who is good with D men who like to jump up into the play. If GG drops the ball at the start of the year you have a capable interim coach in MacLean.
|
I think a key issue is Brodie. Borderline Team Canada defenseman in 2016 has sucked balls under GG. If GG stays Brodie has to be traded for forward depth.
