If we want someone who is proven to be successful in "today's NHL" (going back almost 10 years I suppose). But with any coach there are warts. He likes his vets. He loves him some Tanner Glass for example.
Right now, for this franchise, they should want someone who can forge a consistent approach. Get them in every year. I think AV has that track record.
Friedman on 960 right now - Says there will be clarity among a number of coaching decisions soon. Feels Treliving doesn't think GG should take the blame for all that happened. Reiterates the wrestling with the decision idea. Brings up Peters again but says that his option to leave the Hurricanes isn't dependent on Calgary "they aren't related" but Peters has worked with Treliving in the past and the 960 crew seems to want to go down that road.
Friedman also suggests the Oilers are calling one too many pressers. Amen.

The reality is that it's probably both. But you have to start with the guy that has the most impact on the way the team plays. This team may not be perfect, but at the very least you have to find a coach who can coach the majority of players in this lineup because short of blowing it up, this is 90-95% of the team we will have next year too.

Yeah. Made playoffs 9 straight years, prior to this year, including 2 cup finals and only 1 first round exit.

If the team that fired a Jack Adams winner fails to fire a disappointment during the same tenure, I will have a hard time supporting Treliving.
I was not happy when Hartley was let go, but I trusted people smarter than I. But comparing what Bob did, and what Glenn has done - it's very clear that Glenn must go for us to trust their judgement going forward.

Tremendous resume.
2 ECF
1 WCF
2 SCF
Winning in both conferences is big IMO. Plenty of changes in how teams play.
He also rides that fine line between being a hard a## and a player's coach.
That being said the 960 guys are riding the Peters train right now.
That sounded weird.

Since Bob was fired, 14 NHL coaches have been hired (not counting Calgary). There's a reason he isn't one of them.
Forward, not back. Please.

What exactly is the lure of Bill Peters again? I haven't really been paying attention, but from far away, he doesn't exactly seem like a guy with a stellar track record.

His teams have excellent possession numbers but seemingly terrible luck. They led the league in CF% this season (2.4% more than any other team which is absolutely ridiculous), but were 30th in PDO.
It's actually very similar to the Flames this season, but to a greater extreme.

Yeah I'd like to know as well. Other than winning a WHL championship his teams either don't make the playoffs or don't go deep.

I'm not suggesting Bob back. I'd love it, TBH, but I know this is a minority opinion. I also know Bob over AV or Darryl would be a poor decision. I just liked Bob.
But Bob had a worse team playing better hockey and was fired after a poor season. 2 years removed from that decision, I don't understand how GG given a longer rope is justified. He has no success, just lots of people saying he's visually a great coach.

Thats a good question. He's a tactician like Gulutzan, but a little more surly. On the surface would be a lateral move but maybe help give them an identity? The Hurricanes were regarded as a decent team that couldn't get a save (a year ago he said as much lol). Coached alongside Babcock. He's a media favorite thats for sure.
Right now he checks the "isn't Gulutzan" box which might be enough for a lot of people.
Not my first pick. Not my 2nd either.

Stay the hell away from anymore "analytics" coaches. I'm sick of the numbers nerds ruining the game of hockey. it is a goddamn physical game!!! It isn't a mathematics contest!!! At the end of the day all that matters is that you have 1 more goal than the team you are playing. That is the only ####ing number that matters. Screw analytics!!!

Oh boy. I don't know if I can handle another year hearing about bad puck luck.

Any one else cheering for the Blue Jackets? A First round exit would make Trotz available one would think.
