Silly Rolling Stones editors. Everyone knows the greatest song of all time is Sweet Nuthin' by the Velvet Underground. Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel should also be up there. Definitely the best song of the 1980s.

OK...this list is pretty rotten..but one thing sticks out for me.....
Satisfaction-The Rolling Stones.

That song isn't even in the top 10 Stones songs of all time, let alone the #2 song of all time for ANY artist. UGH.

As a matter of fact, looking over the list.....and giving due to historical importance as Rolling Stone OBVIOUSLY did with the inclusion of Nirvana and Chuck Berry, I can only see one song that I know would DEFINITELY be in my top 20 of all time, and that's Hey Jude. Not saying one or two of the others wouldn't be in my top 20, but I can't say that they would be without question.

Paint It Black is definitely up there and well above satisfaction.

I used to hate the Stones when I was younger, but that's before I knew all they had to offer!

Gimme Shelter
Can't Always Get What You Want
Wild Horses
Angie

BRILLIANT!!!

I honestly cannot stand pink floyd... I just dont know what it is about them, but I absolutely HATE their music.

The only song I can even stand listening to is the wall - mostly because of the rountine conan did mocking that song with a bunch of pink floyd look a likes when eminem had that huge 150 look a likes at the mtv music awards stunt.

O-Town? Who the hell is that? I couldn't name you a song from that band/group.
If you're going to include something like Nirvana for having spawned Grundge, why not include something from Massive Attack for having basically started Trip Hop? Or how about something off Radiohead's OK Computer, an album that was very critically acclaimed? How about giving some tribute to some early Metal? I'd say something by TOOL should be on the list somewhere. And the list goes on. Seems like they've mostly given credit to stuff that ended up being fairly mainstream.

Sure there's some great music from the 60's and 70's. I happen to own a lot of Beatles, Zeppelin, Floyd, Doors, etc. But you're stuck in a timewarp if you think nothing noteworthy has come out in the last 15 years.

FDW I agree it says something when arguably the best album put outin 2004 was Coldplay... I can't think of any modern classic bands. Personally I don't see the fuss about Radiohead, but to each their own.

 why not?

I don't claim to know how to measure a top 10 song...but when you consider where popular music was in mid-late 1991....that song roared onto mainstream radio and saved my ears(by bringing alot of other great music to the fore) for the next 5 years

we can debate here (as we have many times) whether Nirvana was truly the 'first' band to break 'grunge' wide open , or whether they are more listenable than Pearl Jam or Alice in Chains or Soundgarden, or even whether Teen Spirit is Nirvana's best song

but Teen Spirit is the 'poster' song for the return of guitar based rock in the early 90s....and that's usually what these lists are about
