Everyone of those players in the list is a way better player then Brouwer!!!
Their stats say they aren't, at least on the PP. But then, that wasn't the point. The point was a response to posters who say "how can any NHL coach put a guy with no PP goals on the PP"? And the answer is that quite a few do.

I have the TV on for games but rarely watch. IF I hear the horn that we have scored, I might go and watch the replay. This is bad hockey, the wrost hockey ever. I doubt I will even have my TV on in the background next year if there is more GG hockey.
Pro tip, you can get thescore (probably others too) to send you alerts, fast enough that you can turn to the game and see the replay of the goal.
I will give my perspective. I am one of the oldest on this site if not the oldest. I started watching hockey with my Dad when it was still the Big 6 League. We were rabid Leafs fans and we could not wait for Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday nights. We owned the TV on Saturday nights.
Never had a TV while attending university so got out of hockey a bit then. Moved to Calgary and got right back into it when the Flames came to town. Never got season tickets right away but had them by the time the Flames had their first Stanley Cup appearance. We shared the season with friends. My friends always called me the #1 Flames Fan...loved this team.
We went to 1/4 season ticket holders around 2000. We lived in the country then and there were a lot of 7 pm starts...just too hard to rush home and get back into town again.
Then my husband died, I moved into Calgary, and kept that 1/4 season ticket because I had a grandson then and wanted to introduce him to hockey when he was old enough. I took him to his first games when Hartley took the Flames to the playoffs. What a GREAT year to introduce a young boy to hockey...such exciting hockey.
I gave up my last holding last year. I have watched a lot of hockey...and I mean a LOT of hockey. GG's hockey has been the absolute worst and by far. I never thought I would say that after watching Young Guns hockey and Brent Sutter hockey.
GG's hockey has killed my hockey spirit. My grandson wanted to attend a few games this year so I bought some tickets...very easy to get but then even he stopped asking to go to anymore games. The Flames lost every game we attended and not one game held any excitement except the game against the Leafs where the Flames were down 6-1 and had a sudden flurry and lost by 7-5.

I'll add that Francis has contributed to my own declining interest as well. It just seems that whenever his name pops up, I can expect to dislike this team more and more. Have salvaged some of that interest with an Athletic account though, but it would be a plus to get him away from the team as well.

The problem with Brouwer on the PP is that the coaches had no idea how to use him to his strengths. They would either put him as a screen or on the half wall. When really he has been effective on the PP in the past in trigger man role higher in the slot between the circles (occupied by Monahan on our First Unit).
Brouwer actually had a decent history of PP production prior to his time in Calgary.
There is a pattern of where he is scoring those goals from. So once again it comes down to the coaching staff not seeing that Brouwer's shot and release is actually one of his strengths, and instead they kept putting him in a spot where he was bound to fail on the PP.
From day 1 him and Monahan should have been on separate units, with each of them being the trigger man from the slot for unit 1 and 2 respectively.

That does not fit with the GG / Cameron system.
What's sad, is at some times last year, the power play actually looked really good. This goal in particular was nothing short of impressive.
I have 1 question to everyone who's blaming Brouwer or poor player usage for our terrible PP this season: How do you explain the 10 finish last season with Brouwer on the PP?
If Brouwer or the coaching staff was so absolutely terrible on the PP strategies, how is it possible that they somehow managed to create a system in place that actually was able to beat out 20 other teams?
Fact: Flames were a top 10 PP in 16-17 with Gulutzan, Cameron and Gerard
Fact: Before Versteeg went down with an injury, the PP was ranked 11th in the entire league
Why did we sink so much? The answer is Kris Versteeg. The real problem was not Brouwer, blaming him is a complete cop out as he helped propel this team to a top 10 PP the season before. But when Versteeg went down with an injury, no one else on this roster could replicate his skill set and we sunk.
Just look at the stats and it tells you everything you need to know:
Before Versteeg injury:
Ranked 11th: 22.1%
After Versteeg injury:
Ranked 30th: 13.5%
No one on this team, not even Dougie could permanently fix this PP. The Toronto Maple Leafs deployed a similar strategy as we did but they somehow finished #2 in the NHL. The difference? They have Nylander and Matthews on the flanks and that's just something that we can't replicate. We don't have a 2 rockets on the flanks like they do. The problem this season wasn't Brouwer and it wasn't the system, the problem was the personnel and I'll go up against anyone on that all day, any day.

It just doesn't fit with having him and Monahan on the same unit.
The Flames played a 1-3-1 PP for a lot of the season this year.
Power Play 1 should have been:
Tkachuk
Gaudreau - Monahan - Versteeg
Hamilton
Power Play 2 should have been:
Ferland
Backlund - Brouwer - Bennett
Giordano
But I think another part of the problem is they never tried Hamilton as the lone d-man in the 4 FWD, 1 D-Man PP unit (read into that what you will).
Aside from Versteeg being out and Gio in on the first unit, and Brodie being the D on the second, isn't that how it was for a good portion of the season?
I agree with the sentiment about a stationary power play. That's clearly not taking advantage of the extra man, and making it really easy to defend.
