Its not that gross as long as Karlsson signs an extension.
Karlsson is better than Dougie
Stone isn't as dynamic as Johnny but a more complete player you could argue.
Ryan is better than Brouwer but has a worse contract.
The first we get is like top 5 this year while the first they get is a year away and who knows where it'll end up.
EDIT: it could be a cap nightmare though depending on the extensions for EK and MS

Or an even bigger nightmare if Karlsson goes UFA.

I think we lose this trade quite badly. Ryan is garbage and way overpaid and we are giving up too much.

Agreed.
If Karlsson does not sign...Ottawa easily gets the two best players ,short and long term, in the deal.
Gaudreau and Hamilton.
Additionally, Ryan’s anchor of a contract makes Brouwer’s look like a rubber dinghy.
Horrible proposal.

It might be the hate blinders but I would buy a 6ft bronze statue of Brad if he could move Brouwer for Ryan
Yes his contract is awful. But he can at least play hockey. Brouwer is a curse upon this franchise and he needs to be not here

Deal doesn’t have to be complex.
If Karlsson can be made to sign, Tre should definitely pursue.
Dougie +
Heck, throw in Hamonic

Ryan’s cap hit is 7.25 mil thru 21-22.
NMC and limited NTC.
No thanks, for sure.

I may be the minority but dougie is elite. I add nothing. Dougie is younger, not injury prone, cost controlled. Etc.
If treliving survives this disasterous year it’s because of the swindelling he performed acquiring dougie Hamilton.

With a half decent power play and being on the unit starting day 1 - Hamilton the type of D that could score between 20 to 25 goals. Unless you are snagging a Seguin type player, you do not trade that asset.
The D on right side should be set for a few years. Hamilton, Hamonic, Rasmussen.
Id move Brodie and Stone.

See, I think he is good offensively but his compete and defensive focus too spotty.

Ferland checks off a lot of what this team needs. He has also shown the ability to actually play on a top line with top-line players, and did so admirably.
I don't get everyone's take here. Ferland was injured, and didn't come back playing as well - but the whole team was crappy.
I get it if his contract is up and he is asking for way too much money. Otherwise, it is an absolute no-brainer to keep him, rather than selling high. Put him in a scoring line, and he will get you 20+ goals, and not be a liability, and when he isn't scoring he is doing a lot of other stuff out there. Remember when Stajan was hit? Who on this team stepped-up and fought Rousseau?
I hope the team finds another couple of Ferlands, rather than trading away the only one we have.
|
Disagree entirely. It's not Ferlands skillset that's the issue. It's consistency or the lack of it. And I'll add his on ice awareness is just plain bad. If you got Good Ferland for half a season or more, things wouldn't be an issue, and even then making him top line RW is just another stop Gap in a line of stop gaps along with Brouwer (that's what he was signed for and played on their line until it was clear it was a long over do mistake), Colborne.
Once again we wade into an off season full of ever hopeful Ferland fans and once again we have all been left wanting. And once again we will read about how he is the answer when it's clear he is not.
Bad Ferland is the worst player on the team. Good Ferland is exactly what everyone wants him to be because we have seen it. Things is you never know which Ferland your getting..
If he stays this offseason, the plan better be to have him slot in the bottom six where he should have always been. And nowhere near the Gaudreau line.
