Seriously? Irish triplets??
Might as well concentrate the misery and get through it more quickly I guess...
Seriously though, congrats to the stone family!

I just don't get the floor falling out on Sam Bennett.
I think we all have to admit his % chance to a be star is waning (not over), but the need to hammer the kid's floor at the same time we see his ceiling reduced is insane.
A guy with speed, tenacity (a history of playoff jam) and 10-15 goals and 10-15 assists every season would play on every team.

While I agree he was decent lets not use meaningless useless stats to boost the argument.

Why are they meaningless?
I think they are as key as almost any stat for a bottom roster player that wouldn't have as pronounced of counting stats to rely on.
If a fourth liner is on the ice for more shot attempts for than against in a hockey game I think you can give him a pass for sustaining momentum before handing the game back to lines one and two.
Shore in his four seasons has had CF% of 53%, 61%, 54% and this year 53% in LA, 56% in Ottawa and 58% in Calgary.
His high danger numbers are also in the black.
Oh and the eye test matches too!

I'd guess the numbers don't lie and he's a bottom roster player going forward, but he's smart and doesn't hurt you on the ice. Ideal fourth line center for next season.
But I certainly don't mind testing him out in a greater role given the circumstances and injuries.
|
Agreed. The difference between he and Monahan is the ability to shoot the puck, and by that I mean that Monahan is elite and Shore is pretty poor at it. He's almost always in the right spots on the ice and has a good head for the game. Good pick up for a 7th round pick.

There's definitely some required consistency in Shores game. He's going to be a very useful player for the Flames moving forward.

I think he's going to be fine, eventually. I hope its not with another team. I think it has been definitively proven that guys who spend any amount of time with Brouwer see their statistics dragged down in a significant way.
Someone on CP did a quick and dirty analysis of Bennett that showed his 5v5 scoring statistics broken down by TOI or quality of linemates. Can't remember exactly what it was, but it was something along those lines.
Anyways, the analysis essentially showed that when his numbers are normalized he compares very well to his blue chip peers. It's just that the Flames have never given him more than a cup of coffee in the top 6 with quality linemates to actually build a foundation.

Bennett has been bounced all over the lines this year. He's had as much chance to prove himself as the backup goalies have. The three of them have been used as fodder. He plays on a line for a couple of games and when it isn't an instant fit he's gone. Bennett's biggest problem (like Rittich & Gillies) is the coach.

Agreed, and that line has looked good together anyway.
Except Bennett should be moved up over Brouwer. Giving Bennett a chance to find chemistry with Backlund is a more useful move than plugging Brouw up there (which serves no purpose).

I've noticed that while Shore doesn't have near the finish as Monahan does, he does try a lot more things out there and hangs on to the puck longer than Monahan. More of a possession player up and down the ice. It gives the first line a different look for sure.
These are some facets that Mony could really add to his game to bring him to another level.

It would really help if they had their uncle around, family is important.

Ok so the Carolina Hurricanes have the best CF% in the NHL this year. The Calgary Flames are 3rd. The Capitals are 24th. Corsi means nothing.

Loubardias is towing the company line. He can't come out and say a bunch of negative #### about the team or he would be toast before next season.

Yeah Lou has been almost irrationally on the defensive about the coaching.
Really odd.
To add to that though, the entire radio crew has been defending the coaching staff for the entire season up until the wheels fell off. Then Steinberg kind of opened up about the survival of the coaching staff. Mind you as the guy who runs the call in show he knows exactly where 90% of fan frustration lies too. So he could be just pandering.
But Kerr has always said sometimes the coaching isn't to blame, but they are always the first to go. So I think Kerr knows full well where this is gonna end up.

It is not really, though—Loubardias is echoing the overwhelming sentiments of most hockey people, national hockey observers and pundits who have cared to weigh in on the coaching situation in Calgary.
I know fans disagree and don't like to hear it, but it seems abundantly clear that Gulutzan is highly regarded in NHL circles.

Lacking results in Calgary and in Dallas.
You are what your record says you and are, so this is a bad NHL team with a bad coach. GG would be lucky to get an assistant job in the NHL after he is let go in Calgary.
I think GG will follow a similar path of past head coaching failures like Greg Gilbert {GG coincidence?).

It also doesn't make him good at his job. Every company has these guys. They are good guys, people like them, they are friends with everybody. They say the right things to the right influential people at the right times. In terms of actual skill they aren't very good at what they do. They just fake it till they make it on the backs of others aka the buddy system. He probably has high emotional intelligence. Impressing the right people and saying the right things takes you far in this world but eventually you have to back it up with actual acumen in the craft. He doesn't have it, its pretty clear from the record he has produced.

The public sentiments of a bunch of yes men that for their own jobs need access to NHL management and players.
As others have said, he seems to understand the game and seems likeable. Just hasn’t actually gotten results as a head coach.
If you are an owner you have all of this lovely sentiment yet a disaster on the ice, and I believe that most billionaires are at least somewhat results oriented.
