Flames are out. Who do you want to see win the cup? Yeah, lots of Flames aren’t in it so I don’t care... that said my picks:
Pacific - Vegas - expansion story line
Central - Jets - Canada’s team
Metro - Pens - 3peat for NHLs best player
Atlantic - Leafs - Canada’s other team

Lightning.... (ducks and covers). I think Yzerman is a terrific GM, and that team is young, talented and exciting to watch. I'm also over their sins from 14 years ago.

I know it would be at the expense of Taylor Hall dragging the Devils to the playoffs (probably; it's still possible that Philly or Columbus could go on a losing streak and drop out) but it would be so amazing. The Panthers were twelve points out in January. Then the Parkland shooting happens. Then Luongo comes back from injury and gives a heartfelt speech. Then they turn into the best team in the league and basically cannot lose anymore. It's like a Disney movie. Plus, Luongo is awesome and it would be nice to see him win one.
If they miss, though, then yeah I'll have to agree with the Devils pick. From the Atlantic, anyone but the Leafs, because... obviously. From the Pacific, I'd be cool with Thornton getting one and the Sharks are playing incredibly well since the deadline. From the central, Ehlers is maybe my favourite player in the league right now so I wouldn't mind a Jets run, but Nashville's whole playoff vibe is fun too.
But yeah, mostly the Panthers.
