I heard that too on the Fan 960. Very curious on what was said by Mike Smith. Maybe it was posted already In this thread. I haven't done my research.

I don't know where you got that number from. I counted 13. Which obviously still isn't good.

I wouldn't say threw them under the bus. He didn't seem like he blamed himself at all, which is odd for him. Said the team needed to clean up their play in the first. He obviously wasn't too happy.

That number just seemed low, so I just went back on counted on the calendar. Regardless, I have a bit of hope still, but it's dwindling.

“You can’t win or lose a game on one shift. There’s been… I’ve been watching a lot of the games obviously, a lot of them from the press box. There’s times in games where it’s okay to try to make a fancy play and there’s other times in games where you just gotta put it in and grind. Gotta go to work, we’ve been saying it all year. It’s about doing the little things and building on the little things when you might not think they’re important things in the game, and they turn out to be the turning points in games. Those are the little things in games we need to build on and get everyone doing it, not just the grinders are blocking shots, we need everyone blocking shots. We need everyone doing the little things that it takes to win games. We do that, and we give ourselves a chance to get in there.”

Many on here are emotionally negative after a tough loss. Which I totally get and never bothers me.
I like your approach. Feel free to be all over the place.

Don’t have a problem with any of this. It is all 100% fair and accurate

Doesn't sound bad on paper.
I don't think you expect guys like Gaudreau to block shots and grind but I do think a couple of important guys on the back end aren't exactly the "do anything to win" types.

In all levity this team has proven it can go on 10 game win streaks.
The problem is the playoffs. To date these guys would be cannon fodder in the 1st round.
Hope they make it, but the odds to make any noise under GG isn’t there. They just play limp in too many (all) pivotal games.

Powerplay and the home record equates to missed playoffs.
Top 6 scoring depth is next on the list for me.
Have to jettison everyone on this coaching staff in April.

So obviously you want to get a healthy Smith back between the pipes as soon as possible. But why not keep riding the hot goalie in Rittich after two really strong games? Why am I even asking this question at this point? Clearly Gulutzan knows beter.

This is my fear. Brad “it’s a process” Treliving will probably want to see gully for another year. I could see the players giving him a decent review during the exit interviews as well, because he seems to be a buddy coach and doesn’t make them do anything hard (just my assumption based on what I’ve seen and heard.) If that happens, I hope someone steps in a gets rid of Brad as well.

I found the guys on 960 and the coaches were way too full of excuses. Yeah they outplayed them overall, but it was mostly after they gave them the game. The Flames were low on compete, intensity, and execution, and gave them a 4-1 lead. Then they couldn’t mount any sort of comeback in spite of the Islanders doing very little to stop them.
Just another woefully uninspired and unprepared game from a team that should be fighting for its playoff life in front of its fans that they have let down all season. Dismal.
As I was sitting in the Dome tonight, the team solidifying my decision to relinquish my tickets next season, I realized something even worse. I have been bringing my kids to several games this year, wanting them to become fans as well. But instead of the games being exciting and riveting (win or lose isn’t really that important, honestly), it is mostly about having treats, and me trying to make things interesting and fun in spite of what is going on in the game.
They are making it hard for me to stay a die hard fan, and the teams play is preventing my kids from becoming hard core fans. I’ll stay with the team, certainly as soon as they give me something to cheer about again. I’m worried I’ve lost the chance to get my kids hooked.

I see the oilers doing a lot of this when they are in tank mode, they stand back swing sticks and seem to shoot wide. or right into the crest. The Flames didn't play for each other or the coach this season. Too many piss poor efforts and just played well enough to get us to the cut off line.

Out competing when the opposition is sitting on a 2-3 goal cushion doesn't mean a lot. What reason do the Isles have to push the pace when in that position? They did the work they needed to when the game was up for grabs, and the Flames didn't.
Racking up shots and zone time when chasing =/= doing what is needed to win a game.
I hope Gulutzan can see that.
