The Rangers have thrown in the towel since the new year. Coming in to last Friday’s game the Rangers had four wins in their last 18 games. Four. Oh and one of those four victories? Calgary when they visited MSG.

The thrashing against Buffalo was a good sign the Flames haven’t fully given up yet. But if they wanted to make the playoffs, home to the Rangers was a game they could not drop.
Rangers management may have wrote a memo saying they've thrown in the towel. Players may not have received it.

^ Yeah, and that loss to the Rangers really wasn't a result of poor play. Lundqvist went into god mode and stopped something like 50 shots. I know the win was important, but we played very well that game I thought.

Which is good to hear. I didn’t catch that game.

But we’re probably past the point of shouldas. Dropped points now means no playoffs.

It will be nice not hearing the Darryl Sutteresque excuses from Tre though. “We’d be in a playofff spot if we played in the Eastern Conference”.

We've hit our fair share of posts this season too. Hitting the post is just a missed shot.

Id like to see the Flames bury some of there High danger chances instead of hitting centre mass on the goalies! That's where the problem is. don't they teach these kids how to shoot the puck anymore? They need to take some lessons from Laine and Boesser.

Seriously I never found it that difficult. The puck goes where the eyes go so stop looking at the fat target!

That's what I find most frustrating with Gaudreau...if the guy had a much more deadly/accurate shot, and breakaway skills, he'd be unstoppable.

He's a tiny guy with a short stick and is trying moves like he's Joe Colborne-sized. That I think is the main issue. Earlier in his career he'd create changes on breakaways with speed and quick releases, not so much now.

Has he ever shelfed it on a breakaway? Maybe once?

Well if they try and pick a corner.. it might miss and the other team will take it the other way and score on Gilles

Man, what did Hathaway do to become the new whipping boy? He's outproduced Stajan and Lazar in fewer games and he's a hitter and an agitator. And guess what? He didn't cost a 2nd round pick or have a 3.5 m salary. Expectations are so skewed. On a team of underachievers he contributes more than his fair share.

It seems like for the past 13 years or so the Flames keep running into hot goaltenders. There's clearly something going on with the attitude or the offensive system of the team that results in them getting rattled and shooting pucks directly at a goalie's chest.

Because Hathaway plays with Bennett and Jankowski.

Lazar plays with Stajan
Stajan plays with Lazar

Hathaway isn't a whipping boy, but he is in over his head on the third line and better options are available. That line goes cold when they fall into a dump and chase and cycle game with Hathaway. Shore is simply better based on NHL and AHL resume fullstop, and as of the last few months Lazar has started to use his speed and skill effectively. The return of Versteeg is also going to directly affect Hathaway.

I think Hathaway is a perfect #12Forward for your fourth line. But we are already paying Troy Brouwer 4.5M to be our 4th line RW.
