Amehlia Earhart's remains positively identified?
Story was in the national post today, which is interesting because it solves a really romanticized mystery.
http://nationalpost.com/news/world/b...analysis-shows
Quote:
A new scientific study claims that bones found in 1940 on the Pacific Island of Nikumaroro belong to Earhart, despite a forensic analysis of the remains conducted in 1941 that linked the bones to a male. The bones, revisited in the study “Amelia Earhart and the Nikumaroro Bones” by University of Tennessee professor Richard Jantz, were discarded. For decades they have remained an enigma, as some have speculated that Earhart died a castaway on the island after her plane crashed.
The bones were uncovered by a British expedition exploring the island for settlement after they came upon a human skull, according to the study. The expedition’s officer ordered a more thorough search of the area, which resulted in the discovery of several other bones and part of what appeared to be a woman’s shoe. Other items found included a box made to hold a Brandis Navy Surveying Sextant that had been manufactured around 1918 and a bottle of Benedictine, an herbal liqueur.

Kinda sad if true. I was hoping when the Aliens finally come to earth that their ambassador would be Earhart and her assistant would be elvis.

I'd say there's nothing positive or definitive about it. I take anything TIGHAR says with a grain of salt, the organization is sketchy and seems to push a theory to get contributions for private profit. *hearsay

Doesn't really solve anything.
Was a study funded by a group dedicated to proving that those were her bones, seems pretty biased no?

Though the actual bones have long been lost, Jantz applied modern-day forensic analysis techniques to the old measurements, and inferred more information about Earhart’s size and stature from historical photographs and preserved pieces of the pilot’s clothing. Jantz’s work suggests that the bones actually did belong to a woman of roughly Earhart’s size, leading him to write in the paper that “it is more likely than not the Nikumaroro bones were (or are, if they still exist) those of Amelia Earhart. If the bones do not belong to Amelia Earhart, then they are from someone very similar to her.”
|
The bones are lost, they're making comparisons based on photographs, but it's definitely her, or it's someone else.
This whole thing is hilariously stupid.

In the absence of DNA confirmation I put this a little above the Hitler-lived-in-South-America stories on the believability scale. But the possibility is interesting. This has been one of my favourite mysteries from the 1900s.

This just seems like the annual "we figured it out...maybe" news story on Earhart. Her story will go down in history as unsolved forever in my opinion.

Watch "Hunting Hitler"- I don't think him not dying in a bunker is the most unbelievable theory out there right now- There is proof that a LOT of other high ranking Nazis made it not only out of Germany but all the way to South America, why not him?

Even if he did make it out, he was on his last legs with his health.

Except that Hunting Hitler is so incredibly bad with it's pseudo-clues and horrid acting, you can't help but disbelieve everything presented as evidence.

The Nazi hunters were super persistent after the war from what I understand. If it was at all possible I feel like those guys would have figured it out. If he hid so well that they didn't even know about it I have zero belief that a documentary crew could find anything resembling proof.
