Agree. I get people miss the first rounder but it was a worthwhile gamble to take. Sometimes you get a tkachuk but most of the time you get a Klimchuk or Poitier. Or jankowski. Or Bennett

I'm not giving up on them, but I am taking a break from CP. That's not to say this PGT is awful or anything, I just find I get more depressed and angry when I'm following everything intently. So I'm choosing not to.
Here's hoping we can recover and still make the playoffs.
Go Flames!

I agree with this. This season just isn't fun. I'll never stop being a Flames fan, but for this season I've almost stopped caring. I couldn't even find joy in the Oilers losing the other night.
I think I just need a break. This PGT is totally justified, and I think most of the outrage here is understandable.

How often is a team gonna get 51 ####ing shots and only score on one of them though? Goalie made 50 saves that is insane...I know a lot were from the outside but there were some damn good chances. How does Backlund not score? Flames are gripping the sticks so tight its ridiculous.

That's it. It has happened like 20 times.
This takes it from lack of luck to lack of talent, outside of the obvious few.
You won't have any success with only 2 lines.

That's crap. The talent is there. It's not being deployed properly.

There is certainly a lack of talent at the forward ranks...a couple injuries and its pretty much decimated. One of our supposed top offensive talents has 9 goals FFS

I'm not even sure if you are trying to make excuses or are just trying to not sound negative. Just do it..... come to the dark side. It is much nicer over here.

Talent is there, but regressing and has been regressing as the confidence and lack of getting pushed to get to the next level from the staff, has worsened. Started noticing it late November as games started well for the Flames but turned against them late and found ways to lose or lose a new extra point The stick toss corrected it temporarily. Since then, it's individuals playing rather than a team again with no faith in the direction they are being given.

Tally up the scoring totals for the Flames 3rd and 4th line this season. Would not surprise me that only the Oilers 3rd/4th have scored less.
That same 'deployment' has resulted in best ever years for Gaudreau Monahan and Tkachuk.
I'm not saying don't fire Gulutzan, friend. I'm saying the bottom 6 forwards are not good enough to win.

There's a fair bit of talent in the top 6 and the D but the bottom six is abysmal. Worst bottom six in the league? Maybe or for sure?
Coaching is also a major issue, too I think, but I think Mgmt seriously overrated the bottom half of the forward roster.

I don't care about the 1st rounder. Its a sunk cost. The price paid was reasonable for a cost controlled top 4 dman with term. I think they would probably do it again.
Personally, I consider Gulutzan the first coach of the "Window". Hartley was a stopgap.
The core isnt going anywhere, so the brass has some tough in depth analysis to figure out what went wrong this year. Do you give Gulutzan another year, potentially righting the ship? Or potentially sewering another year where they were suppose to improve and push.
Different isn't always better, as Flames fans we know that all too well. Sutter, Playfair, Keenan, Sutter, Hartley..... Gulutzan. When does it end?
I would say this. Im not necessarily in favour of removing Gulutzan for another "up and comer." I fear it would be much of the same. But if a proven coach were to somehow come available that fits your organizational philosophy, you go all in.

Our forwards are talented at everything but offence and scoring goals. But their "goodness in the dressing room" makes up for it right?

I actually thought that was one of the more entertaining Flames games I've seen in a while. The result sucked, but at least they showed a pretty good effort for most of it, and it was pretty wide open hockey.
They really need to bring the effort more consistently, and the vaunted back-end needs to contribute more either offensively or defensively (ideally both).

We have 3 guys win offensive talent. Monahan gaudreau and tkatchuk.

Monahan is a 2nd line centre on a real playoff team.

You are both wrong and right. I do believe a better coach might get a little more from this roster, but it also lacks talent. Currently we have 4 legit top 6 forwards, we are also lacking enough talent up front.

I blame the Game Thread for saying it's March 1. Threw the hockey Universe off balance.

Bottom 6 forwards are depressing for this team, pretty much all of them are really horrible.

Outside of monahan gaudreau tkatchuk, take away ferland off top line and he scores maybe 5 goals this year, someone explain to me how we have "talent" in our forwards backes up with offensive stats. Backlunds career high was 53 for heavens sakes!

I said it would be an excuse if it hadn't happened 20 times already.
I don't need to be on a side I am calling it like it is and racking my brain for solutions...Flames often control play but need 4 or 5 times as many chances to score a goal.
Seems obvious they need more pure scoring in the forward ranks...and less dead weight
