The Maple Leafs do realize he can't hit the broad side of a barn anymore, right? I guess not.

Actually, I think Rinat Valiev is a bigger piece than Rychel - he's been really good for the Marlies this year and could be in MTL's lineup next season. There's upside there.

Rychel also cleared waivers earlier this season, he does not have much value.

I thought it was just Rychel and a 2nd Valiev is a good prospect I know ~ Baun is just a filler to help replace what they lost in the AHL.
Pretty steep price for an over the hill 35 year old Plekanec

Rychel really isn't that great a prospect anymore, if it wasn't for the name, he'd be in the Klimchuk value range.

Jesus if this is what Plekanec gets, Karlsson is gonna cost Sergachev, Stamkos and Kuchverov 50% retained.

He had a solid 32 game showing in Columbus and fell behind the youth movement in Toronto ~ I think he will come to the forefront in Montreal. He's only 23 and plays a physical brand of hockey while putting up solid numbers in the AHL. Klimchuk hasn't touched 50 points yet and Kerby looks like he could flirt with it a 2nd time here.

Maybe not so much value right now but I think he still has a lot of game left to show and at this point is further than Klimchuk in development.

So this would be like trading Kylington + Klimchuk + 2nd round pick for Plekanec ... not sure I would do that.

I think it'd be more like Rafikov/Wotherspoon+Poirier+2nd

Leafs were right at 50 contracts (or really close if they weren't) so this gives them some flexibility as well

You'd think the Leafs would be acutely aware of how much Plekanec has fallen off. Probably still serviceable as a 3rd/4th line center, especially at half the price.

This is a bad deal for Toronto. Plekanec is pretty much done these days, and certainly isn't known for his playoff prowess. While the prospects they gave up aren't exactly sure bets, I sure wouldn't give them up for Tomas Plekanec at this point in his career.

Leafs really wanted to find a other bottom 6 centre for checking purposes. The worst they gave up was the 2nd which is either right or too much depending on your opinion of Plekanec as a bottom 6 guy.
