Loved that the Flames were putting the puck on net all game. For me, that was why they had so many really good chances - not to mention 5 goals.

Backlund was great today. I thought Bennett was flying as well.

Slow start again, and I thought they were lucky to be up after the 1st, but pretty dominant in the last 40.

Good to get the regulation win, and nice to do it in convincing fashion.

Bennett is a different player when playing with Gaudreau.

Bennett looks a lot better on the top line which isn't surprising at all. Monahan and Johnny are completely different level of players. I did notice today that Bennett is looking to pass a lot on that line - on other lines he tends to hold and shoot himself a lot more.

The 3M line was fantastic tonight. They made the Mackinnon line play defence all game and scored a few too. Really good game from them.

Really thought that Hamonic had a good game. He played the Avs tough and it really seems like he's more comfortable with the team and his partner now. He's holding onto pucks and actually making breakout passes instead of up the boards hard all the time. He's grown on me a lot. Good player.

Mangiapane had a really uneven game in my opinion. I thought he was dragging that line down in the first half with some bad passes and he was losing pucks in his own feet or holding onto it to long and giving it away. Then he seemed to gain a bit of confidence as the game went on and actually got a couple of scoring chances as well as causing turnovers by the Avs with his forecheck. Hopefully he can keep it going.

Lazar had a better game, as did Stajan and Brouwer. The Avs don't have a ton of depth so it's good to see the Flames 4th line look pretty good.

Gillies was really good in the first outside of the goal against. There were a lot of shots through traffic that he tracked well and he covers so much of that net down low. I think they've got to stick with him for now.

Great interview. I liked what he said about that goal not affecting him. The fact that he doesn't let bad goals bother him is huge going forward. Look how confidence has destroyed Jake Allen.

Should light a fire under Rittich too, looking forward to seeing them both in the back to backs.

Wow a comfortable afternoon home win! The 3M line was amazing, the PP looked solid, and Gillies was great other than the one goal.

I've been wondering this for a while, what is the deal with the Sportsnet non-existent post game coverage? I was watching on NHL.TV and a minute after the game the feed cuts out. I then turn over to the Lanche feed and get a 30 minute post game show. Lame.

Great game by the Flames. This team needs some wins to get their confidence up and become a bit more resilient, and it seems to be working.

That flukey bouncer seemed to deflate them slightly, but Gillies made some great saves and made up for it, and the team rallied. Kudos for Giordano to go to Gillies right away - that's what you want to see in a captain, and I bet you it helped. Gillies was really good today, fluke aside. He made some huge saves.

Depth scoring seems to be rather fixed lately. Everyone is stepping up and contributing. A few weeks ago, this team would have lost 1-0 or 2-1 because the first line didn't produce offensively, but everyone is chipping in now. Flames no longer have a lousy 4th line - that line has been consistently good for a stretch.

Backlund was on his game tonight. I am sure MacKinnon was pretty sick of him. Even though the top line didn't contribute on the score sheet (outside the PP that is), I thought that they had lots of good chances. Bennett is so good when he plays with a skilled player that has speed.

Defence was good. I still wish they wouldn't do so many D-to-D passes, but I looks like in this little stretch that they are opening up a bit more offensively, which is what I have been really hoping to see.

This is the time of year that you want to see a team solidify and ramp up their game. It seems to be happening. I think playing a bit lower quality of competition has been good as it helps get some guys going (not that Colorado sucks - I think they are a very dangerous team this year, and they even had a 10 game winning streak). I think this play will carry-over for the stretch drive.

Flames just need to continue putting in this effort. Really great to see that the HORRIBLE goaltending issues that have plagued this team for years looks to be solved. 3 goalies able to come in and steal a game, or keep the Flames in a game, and at the very least, not consistently lose games outright. Smith, Rittich or Gillies - any of these three can have a bad game, but they are usually somewhere between solid and fantastic.
