So maybe he rides shotgun on Backlund's line to help moderate the whole liability part?
Spread out the scoring and get Tkachuk some assists.

Stienberg wrote a piece earlier this week about Flames trade chips and has Anderson at the top of his list. He might not be wrong. Gio, Hamilton, and Hamonic likely aren't going anywhere.
gio's The Captain, loved for his community work and still a top pairing guy on this team. If the organization were to trade him, it should have happened two years ago.
Hamilton is going to be their best D, if he isn't already.
The Flames gave up a ton for Hamonic, they clearly hold him in high regard. Trading him now would just smack of panic and poor asset management. If treliving wanted to get himself fired, trading Hamonic now for presumably less than what he gave up, would be a good way to do it.
Brodie should get traded, but the organization doesn't appear to have the depth on the left side to do it. It doesn't sound like Kylington or Valimaki are ready to take his minutes, this year or next.
They could trade Stone, but what ever return you are going to get likely won't move the needle that much, they acquired him last year for a 3rd. I can't imagine his value has changed. Keep in mind the extended him less than a year ago because they likely didn't want a Kulak-Anderson bottom pairing. The placed higher value on a veteran D who can play up in the line to spot for injuries.
So what's left? We know the Flames want to improve and start making some noise in the playoffs. They've stated this publicly & their moves over the past two years support this. If the Flames want to improve, they will need to leverage a position of strength to address a weakness, is defensive depth for offensive help. A 22 year old NHL ready RHS D is an attractive asset to a lot of teams who are rebuilding or looking for a quick rebound (Montreal).

I don't trust Grabner. First line minutes, someone has to score for the Rangers. At least not for the cost. I'd take Vanek for much cheaper if we are looking for a sniper on the second line. Bargain bin and get lucky or stay pat.

Oscar Lindberg. Has not worked out for them so far with something like 9 points in 55 games.

Not sure what that would mean for Jankowski’s future with the team. Could the Flames then Flip Jankowski for Galchenyuk or Gallagher?
|
It may not mean having to juggle our centers. I think Johnson is actually playing a lot on the wing this season. He could possibly fit in on the right wing?

Keep Andersson. Trade Hamilton for a top 5 pick at the draft. Draft Brady Tkachuk.
Hamilton is not as good as fans here believe, his defensive play is atrocious and this is evident by the flames coaches pairing him with Giordano to insulate him. Every game Gio is bailing Hamilton out, most times everything works out because Gio is that good.
Hamilton is a bigger and better skating Dennis Wideman. I don't think the Flames lose much replacing Hamilton with Andersson. Anyone of the right shot defenseman could play with Gio and become a top pairing guy. The one constant in all that advanced stats crap is Gio, not the partner, whether it is Brodie or Hamilton or Andersson or Hamonic or Stone.

LOL I got a good chuckle out of this post. There's a small handful of posters that hate Hamilton. It's the strangest thing I've ever seen at CP. Not sure if he's slept around with some girlfriends or wives of posters but it makes literally no sense. The guy is 2nd in goals by defensemen at 24 years old. Where was Giordano at 24 years old?

Brady Tkachuk is gonna bust. He’s riding on Matt’s coat tails and everyone believes he’s going to be as good, even though he’s never come close to producing like his brother. He’s not as talented, not as fierce, and will not achieve the lofty expectations of going top five. He’s going to go full Virtanen, and you never go full Virtanen.

Let the kid actually get drafted first before writing him off as a bust... knowing the Tkachuk blood lines I wouldn’t be so quick to write Brady off as a Virtanen like bust; it’s too hard really to compare college hockey versus juniour hockey and Tkachuk (Matthew) did have the benefit of playing more games in a season on an absolutely stacked London Knights team.
Remember when so many rival fans and even some flames fans said M. Tkachuk was riding the coat tails of Marner and Dovorak? That turned into some pretty tasty crow for those that held that opinion.

Expectations are so high for Brady he has to turn into a 30 goal scorer. Has. To. He won’t live up to those expectations. People suggesting trading a first pair defender, under the of 25, for a kid that hasn’t produced elite numbers at any level he’s played, are ridiculous.

With how steady Kulak has been.. with how Andersson, Kylington and even Wotherspoon have been performing in the A and with Valimaki and Fox looking to potentially make the jump to pro hockey (AHL/NHL) as early as next year I really think now and or the offseason before the draft would be a grand time to sell high on one of our Top 4 D.
It’s going to be an interesting final week here before the trade deadline.

No matter how the season plays out the Flames should be very active before the draft. Could see a top 4 d move and possibly a prospect.
Hopefully we can get a top 6 young forward and a 1st plus 2nd for this draft.

I said it in the off season, said it after game one, and stand by the belief that the Flames should be trading Brodie ASAP. Fill a hole up front while you have the defensive depth. People are in love with his skating, but every other part of his game is suspect. Move him while you can get a possible big return.

Honestly with Kylington taking another big step in development here and with Kulak playing steady D and having the likes of Kylington/Valimaki coming up on the left side it would be prudent for the Flames to trade Brodie for top 6 help. Tyler Johnson’s name floated out there and I think that would be a fantastic hockey trade straight across; play Johnson isn’t just locked to Center - he can and has played wing before for the lighting and would allow us to spread the scoring deeper through out the lineup.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Johnson
Tkachuk - Backlund - Ferland
Bennett - Jankowski - Frolik
Brouwer - Stajan - Versteeg
Hathaway, Lazar
I think too if we could flip Frolik for a pick it would be a good time to do it - there is lots of depth in our bottom 6 and Frols could command a 2nd round pick no doubt and could also be flipped to fill a stop gap if a Brodie/Johnson type deal occurred.
It could be a really good week here if certain options become available for Tre a little tinkering could push this line-up over the top.
