The guy has 7 goals in 39 games. On what planet is he desirable at his current contract?

Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great player and has a lot of tools that could help us. But when it comes to trades, acquisition price is always my first thought and Hoffman did not impress me for the price we’d be paying.

I definitely list off some strange trade ideas from time to time. But it’s easy to throw out big names like Mark Stone, Mike Hoffman, Wayne Simmonds and etc. But considering our lack of resources, I think it makes a lot more sense thinking about creative, outside of the box ideas than the typical. If Brouwer doesn’t waive then that’s fine, there’s a lot of options still out there.

At 50%, his cap hit would only be $3.625M. That’s not unreasonable for a player with his skillset. He’s 7th in ice time among forwards on his team so I’m not surprised he’s sitting at a half point per game. We’re looking for a 3rd line right winger right now and I think he’d make a nice addition to the Jankowski-Bennett line.

Think I would explore the Detroit options over Ryan. I wouldn't be sending Frolik or Backlund back though. I would be looking to add to our roster not make a lateral move.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Gillies #19 on the tsn trade bait board. Wonder if if they were shopping him and have taken their foot off the gas with the current Goalie injuries.

Still think he is being shopped. May have changed if Smith was out say 3 weeks instead of one.

No way Ryan ends up on a Burke team. Thank god for that. He is an awesome person and a crap hockey player that is already getting worse.

All speculation aside, I doubt Calgary has been scouting Bobby Ryan in the press box at all these Sens games.

Note I said in and not from the press box.

I’d say pretty much any of the rumoured available players.

Fox >> 1st round pick
Gillies = 2nd round pick

Since there is some speculation of Fox signing, I doubt his value is greater than a first round pick.

Travis Yost at TSN is suggesting a Nugent-Hopkins for Hoffman swap and if I'm not mistaken this pretty much guarantees the Flames get Hoffman

starting next year, mcdavid will cost $12 million against the cap. Add leon draisaitl, milan lucic, and ryan nugent-hopkins to the mix, and you have roughly 44 per cent of next year’s cap tied up by four players.

I'm not sure if Bobby Ryan is the right player but I do like the idea of swapping Brouwer for someone else's bad contract and see if the change of scenery helps

I think there’s a plethora of us who like the idea, unfortunately his NMC pretty much negates our desires, he’s not going to allow us to fire him into the sun just because... unfortunately.

Fox has said or done nothing to indicate he won’t sign.

Not just that, but they'll have to re-sign Nurse who's been their most reliable defenseman this season and will likely want $4M+ which should bring them up to something like $60 million for 9 skaters and a goaltender. Yikes.

There could easily be a deal for Bobby Ryan, for little return to Ottawa. Brouwer and Shinkaruk (type player) going the other way, with matching salaries for Brouwer and Ryan, would save ottawa 7M over the long haul.

I think what makes it a non-starter is Ryan's NMC. If Seattle comes into the league with the same rules as Vegas, there is no way Calgary wants to use a spot on Ryan.

Good point actually. Didn't even realize he had an NMC.

Can we stop with the Brouwer trade crap? He’s not going anywhere... we aren’t moving him for a different bad contract. He isn’t waiving his NTC. Management loves the guy. The coaches love the guy. And by rumours, the players love the guy.

He isn’t going anywhere.
