Seems there isn't really an official definition and that apparently complicates things in the way the media reports.

It's unfortunate that my literal response to reading this just now is just shaking my head and moving on. No real urge to even seek out a news site and see what happened exactly. How sad is that? It's on par with the "suicide bomb in Middle East" stories now.

They just showed a shot from a chopper in a neighborhood close to the school...a kid being shackled (feet and hands) and loaded into a car after coming out of a house.
Dont know if he is the shooter or what....but looks that way.
Senator that represents the district confirming "multiple fatalities".

In the past week or so there has been 2 mass shootings, 3 incidents of cop killings and a high school shooting.
