Let Edmonton have one of the 1st round picks, or add one of Ottawa's 1st rounders. It's not like Edmonton will do any good with that pick anyway.

If he plays well, does anyone think he'd be interesting /good enough to play some high energy minutes?

I don’t think there’ll be any kind of bidding war for him. Versteeg coming back will be a far better deadline addition.

Is Scott Gomez available?
Jason Arnott?
We could reunite them to capitalize on the winning ways of the 2003 New Jersey Devils!

i don't think he's that much better than Turris to be honest
|
Turris was also a soon-to-be UFA who was not going to sign in Ottawa. At the very least they get another full season of Duchene and the potential of re-signing him.
And it's extremely likely that it's a 2019 first given the conditions.

There are many teams that would pick up the Toews contract as it ends before the players gets too old. He would be seen as a difference maker for a cup run.
Pretty much every team would jump at the chance to take on the Kane contract. The main difference is that Kane would bring quite a bit of value back.
I doubt Chicago is anywhere close to rebuilding, as they were trending to be a playoff team until Crawford went down.
He's likely the most underrated Hawk player from the last two Hawk cups, and was likely the key (along with Keith) of the last one.

which is really odd, as Turris wanted to sign in ottawa, and it was projected his ask was in the 6.5 million range, but it was Melnyk who balked at that price, even though Duchene is currently earning 6 million... while he is under contract for another year after this, his ask isn't going to be any less that what turris wanted.
still not a deal i would have done.... Turris, 2 firsts and a 3rd?
considering their career stats aren't that difference, that seems like a huge overpay.

Might be the same scout that was at Leafs vs Lightning last night.
Joe Yerdon @JoeYerdon
Scouts list in Buffalo tonight: Apart from regulars, nine NHL teams represented. BOS, CAR, VGK, WPG, NYR (2),STL, CGY, ANH, LAK.
Even some non-regulars have become regulars here. Beauty of being close to S. Ontario.

Chris Johnston on 960 says the Flames have been watching the Leafs a bit and wonders if the there is a fit there with the leafs forwards. He mentions that the Flames don't have the assets for a big name.

He hasn't played a game this year though. Can't really scout him if he's in the pressbox.

Flames play the Sabres in a few weeks. Perhaps that's all it is.

They don't need a scout for that, they need an alarm clock

Could also be scouting players for a summertime trade or ufa pickup. Rumours are that Toronto is not trading anybody out of their top 9 at deadline.

This thinking is so silly to me. It's viewing picks in the '18 draft as the only currency with value - which just isn't true.

Interestingly enough, I think the best pieces for the flames to pick up would be the modern equivalent to Marcus Nilsson (with maybe a bit more PP finesse) and Ville Niemenen. This would give them depth in case of injuries and a strong push without upsetting the room, while also providing a bit more edge. Who the equivalent players are is anyones guess. Any deal involving one of our D for a top 6 right winger would have to come at the draft.

The name I keep thinking we’ll see is Grabner. Probably has a fairly low acquisition cost, can skate and score. Haynes made a point on twitter today that he might fit in on the second line then you can move Frolik down to improve the 3rd line. I agree.

The only equivalents in today's game that I can think of would be maybe Tom Wilson, Nick Ritchie, and Austin Watson?
