I wonder if that puts some of the Eagles coordinators back in the mix. Schwartz, Reich, Defilippo were all considered to be drawing interest around the league. I'm guessing Schwartz is probably drawing less interest after the egg he put up in the Super Bowl but the other two might be.

Irsay should be trying to poach Belichick now. That would be ####ing amazing.

My guess is this has more to do with tension in the Patriots organization than trying to screw the Colts. I wouldn't be surprised if this newest development was mostly between Kraft and McDaniels.

There is always overreaction in any "fan nation" following a championship loss, but the last few days for the Pats has been very different than past losses and a lot of signs point to that ESPN article having some legitimacy. There is just no way McDaniels turns down the Colts if he hasn't been told by Kraft that Belichick is likely done after 2018 and he is the heir.

Butlergate could be a symptom of the turmoil behind the scenes, and may have escalated things- likely both. Nothing has come out to vindicate Belichick's decision not to play his #2 CB and possibly best tackler, and that decision likely infuriated Kraft.

Belichick can technically fire McDaniels I believe. Imagine the Pats start slow on offense next year and Bill ####cans him. The Patriots have gone from quietest NFL franchise to the biggest drama show in a few short weeks. Amazing.

Yeah congrats to rube, Kal, Weitz, and the rest of the loyal Eagles fans in here (they're well represented, feel like I'm forgetting some). A lot of the same names in this thread over the past decade-plus, nice to see the majority of fans in here over that time get to celebrate a championship.

...Browns, you're up!

I think Schwartz will get another shot sooner than later. It can't be ignored how well his defenses in Buffalo and Philadelphia have played. I don't think too many teams will put much stock into how the defense played in the Super Bowl as they won the game and started to get in Brady's face at the end of the game when it counted. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about him getting an interview for this opening.

http://www.patriots.com/news/2018/02...ay-new-england

Ultimately McDaniels didn’t feel comfortable taking his family, which includes his wife Laura and four children, out of New England. That was reportedly the reason for his reluctance to commit to the Colts.
The next logical step in the process obviously involves the future of Bill Belichick. The coach has endured a trying couple of months dealing with reports of a rift among him, his quarterback, Tom Brady, and his boss, Kraft. With McDaniels having a change of heart, the immediate speculation would be that he did so knowing that Belichick is set to call it quits after 18 years at the helm in New England.

Ya, he's just burned a huge bridge and NFL owners don't like to be made to look stupid

Even if he ends up getting pats job in a few years, it's likely without Brady and Gronk, plus no current QB in waiting

Seems short-sighted

Or he'll go to Indy heal Luck, sober up Irsay and have another dozen seasons winning there bringing dormant Colts fans back to life.

One intriguing theory out there is McDaniels became aware of how serious Luck’s injury situation is and didn’t want any part of a Colts team without Luck.

Im not sure this would be the sole reason for him pulling out, but Im sure it didn’t help.

Not out of the realm of possibility as if they can make some hits with all the draft picks they have accumulated there's potential for that team to turn the corner. Not going to happen under Hue Jackson but I imagine he's a place holder for new GM John Dorsey who will likely be spending the next 12 months evaluating other coaches around the league to find his guy.

If it was just him having turned tail last minute I’d be fine with it but after having already hired guys who left other jobs to go there and work for him? That’s pretty scummy.

McDaniels is getting pasted by NFL types all over the place, and deservedly so.

I get he has the right to not accept the job offer, but once you have committed OTHER guys to your staff and they have left their jobs to join you? You have accepted.

It's really indefensible and something the league needs to address somehow. This decision has affected many families all over the place.

Even his agent has dropped him.

Quote:
Agent Bob LaMonte says he has terminated his relationship with Josh McDaniels in the wake of McDaniels' surprising decision to turn down the Indianapolis Colts' head-coaching job and remain the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots.

"My word is my bond," LaMonte told Sports Business Journal on Wednesday. "Once you break that, there's nothing left."

LaMonte replied that McDaniels was "committing professional suicide," according to the source.

LaMonte also is the agent for Colts general manager Chris Ballard.
Its just such a Patriotsy thing to do.

^^^ Awesome. NFL does this stuff so well.

I really like the head ref 114. It seems like he legitimately respects the players and enjoys football. Whoever he is I wish there were more like him in every sport.

Yes very impressive! City absolutely nutso over their first title, love that stuff (minus the minor "rioting" or whatever you want to call it that happened the night of the victory).

Kinda blows my mind one of the historic teams in the NFL like they are, had never won a SB title before. Especially in a division where everyone else has won at least 3. It's good to see, there were way too many elite Eagles teams the early half of the previous decade for them to not have a title.
