Yup. And inevitably they get the punishment they deserve. What's the point of buying Van Dijk if you're gonna park the bus at home?

#### penalty from Kane
Probably fair since he was offside when the initial ball was played in

I'd be so conflicted if I were a Liverpool fan about Salah. On the one hand he's amazing, on the other the more he keeps this up, the likelihood he's in Madrid soon increases. Quite the dilemma.

Could you have a 15 minute stretch that sums up these two clubs anymore than the last 15 minutes? Unbelievable.

Crazy finish
On the first penalty the lino was saying, kane was offside but if Lovren touched it he's played on, but he didn't see it. I can't tell on replay
Then Saleh scores a goal that would be among Messi's best
Finally what great call by the lino spotting VVD kicking Lamela in the back of the leg, was the right call

It doesn't matter if he touched it, he's still offside. Plus Kane dove. No way that's a penalty.
The 2nd is BS too. The contact has no effect on the play, it's a dive again. The ref with the perfect view waves play on.

It still was offside yes, was saying what he said not my view
Karius caught his trailing leg though
Not sure what to say about the 2nd if you didnt see can Vvd kick the back of lamelas leg, was clear as day, and obviously the ref missed it, or he waves off the assistant

The 2nd was worse then I thought on seeing the replay.
The first I don't understand. A touch doesn't change the offside. It was certainly not a controlled pass by Lovren. And there really is no contact at all from Karius.

Well the reality is that Liverpool setup to do everything to not lose (as opposed to win) and the draw was the best they deserved. The Salah goal was incredible and probably the goal of the year. If they won though, it was a pure smash and grab. Despite the announcers fondness for how they played, it was everyone back and hoof it up to Salah and Mane. I don’t see that as exciting by any stretch and it wasn’t particularly brave.
Spurs didn’t have a great first half, but really came out and had great opportunities in the second. Glad Kane got the monkey off his back though and he should come out flying next week for the NLD.

Let me first say that Spurs deserved something from the game, so no arguments with the final score, but holy #### those penalty decisions have made me mad.
"There was contact, so he's entitled to go down there" is the absolute worst phrase to creep into football in the last 10-15 years. Lamela feels contact to the back of his calf, so immediately jumps in the air, lifting both feet off the ground as if that's what actually realistically happens in that situation and somehow the linesman calls it. Kane anticipates potential contact (of which there was none) and dives over. Tim Sherwood calls him "clever". It used to be called cheating but that's when the only players who did it were them dirty foreigners. Of course, England's #1 striker can't possibly be a cheating git.

If you give him enough chances the law of averages is eventually going to apply...
Kane should be watching the NLD from the stands on a two-game suspension for a dive that was awarded a penalty.
Despite the fact that he was offside, kicked the ball away, didnt score and the contact was questionable in the first place.
Both penalties needed both the referee and linesman to discuss them in committee so its impossible to say either were no-brainer, clear-cut decisions.
The first one the refs lost it. No idea what was going on there. Offside, minimal (if any) contact, Kane had kicked the ball away and was already in the air looking for the penalty.
The second one? Theres contact, theres a foul. But similarly to hand-balls in the box Lamela backed into VVD, had no possession of the ball, had no position and had no scoring chance and VVD was simply following through on the natural motion of a clearance. So...penalty.
Ref thought no. Linesman thought yes.
The Egyptian can at least stay on his feet and fight for his goals.
Either way, it was a tale of two halves but Liverpool drop points once again to just terrible officiating.
On the bright side though, who were these guys? Lovren taking command of his box? Karius out making saves and ordering his CBs around?
And once again, when does the tide of the game turn? When you remove Henderson and your CM pairing is Wijnaldum and Can. Because they dont move play forward or own their space.

Well the only way you can take Salah "staying on his feet and fighting for goals" is with some revisionist history. Remember that VAR debacle just a week ago? That was Salah having his arm brushing and going down like he had just been paralysed. I think that Kane is one of the more honest players, quite frankly. In a day and age where players spend a ridiculous amount of time flopping around, he generally isn't that guy without contact.
There's no denying that all the players are doing it to some extent though. We've talked about this; that is basically the only way to draw a penalty. If you get fouled and don't drop, you likely don't get the call either.

Were they penalties?
Quote:
Kane was most certainly offside when Dele Alli played the initial pass into him, but the situation appeared to change when Dejan Lovren got involved. The Serbian defender made contact with the ball as he attempted to intercept it, leading some to believe that he had inadvertently played Kane onside.
According to the International Football Association Board (IFAB), a player previously in an offside position is forgiven if he or she receives the ball from an opponent who's deliberately played it. What's up for discussion is whether Lovren's touch can be defined as "deliberate." He may have made a clear attempt to play the ball, but failed to change the course of the pass and certainly didn't intend for it to reach Kane.
Moss wasn't even 100 percent sure if Lovren had made contact, or influenced the play at all.
Here's how the exchange between Smart and Moss went down:
Smart: I cannot be sure if he (Lovren) even touched the ball or not. ... I need to clarify if Lovren touched the ball. If he has, it's a deliberate action and therefore it's a penalty. If he has not, he's offside.
Moss: I have no idea whether he even touched the ball or not. I'm giving the penalty, mate.
The controversy didn't end there. In the 94th minute, Moss determined that Virgil van Dijk fouled Erik Lamela in the penalty area, and awarded Spurs a second penalty. Kane buried this one to split the points.
At first, it was simply a matter of establishing whether Lamela dove. From one side angle, it looked like Van Dijk made minimal, if any contact. But an alternative view proved that the Dutchman did indeed catch Lamela.
Well after the match, images emerged showing Lamela in an offside position mere moments before Van Dijk's challenge.

So Moss' call on the first penalty shows that he didnt even care what the facts were he just made the call and when Smart, the Linesman, made the call on the second penalty he screwed up his primary job in not seeing that Lamela was offside.
Brilliant stuff.

Yup ... brilliant stuff. Koolaid brilliant.
The second was as stonewall a penalty as you will ever see, and no, at no time during that passage of play was Lamela offside.

Now have a look at that gif and here's Van Dijk's thoughts on the second penalty.

The offside being called for is right here.
It's tight, but he looks half a yard off.
I don't think it's stonewall, but maybe that's just my bias coming through. There is no doubt there is contact, but Lamela never plays the ball. In fact he is moving away from the ball, only looking to jump in front of VVD.
If that play is reversed and it's a defender jumping in front of a forward looking to strike the ball then it's probably a foul by the defender.
