Yes, but this year the cap is projected to rise significantly where as last year it did not.
Stamkos signed for $68,000,000
That same number divided by 7 years has an AAV of $9,714,285
I could easily see something like that, but who knows. Maybe Yzerman has no interest in stressing his cap structure in a such a way. They do already have a contending team with a young core, all their draft picks and a pipeline loaded with promising high end prospects.

Hard to believe Kucherov settled for a bridge deal at 4.7. In 2019 he will be needing an extension though. He probably gets around 12 or so, no?

I don't think it's a pipe dream he at least checks out the market. Tavares being interested in playing in Calgary is a pipe dream for sure.

I think Tavares will leave the Islanders simply because they are a bad organization.

Frank Seravalli of TSN speculating the Flames as the best fit for Grabner:
https://www.tsn.ca/tradecentre-match...abner-1.985545
Quote:
Calgary Flames: The Flames could certainly use an upgrade on their bottom two lines, someone who brings speed where guys like Troy Brouwer and Kris Versteeg slow them down. Calgary’s top deadline need is depth scoring help. One caveat to Grabner’s gaudy 21-goal campaign, though, is that six of them are empty-net goals. Of course, you have to be on the ice in the waning minutes to score those goals. The NHL single season record belongs to Pavel Bure with nine in 1999-2000.

I’m not sold on Grabner - he has never been a great passer and though he does have a snipe he’s yet another left hand shot right winger and our current top 6 boasts Ferland and Frolik already. I want to see a right hand shot come in because it will open up opportunity for different looks; especially on the PP if it’s the right piece coming back.

Would love to see the flames add sam gagner. Right handed shot can play anywhere in the lineup, skilled offensively. Should be cheap to acquire as well. Oiler stink tho

Have you seen his contract? Next Mason Raymond
I’m in for Grabner if he is cheap. And I think he could be. For whatever reason teams just don’t value him. He has been waived before, traded for peanuts, and Vegas passed on him.
Still the guy can score 5 on 5 even when playing 4th line.

Let’s add another $3+M bottom 6 forward.
Flames need top 6 help

Play him in the top 6 then. Oh wait, nm. That’s what the Oilers would do.

50 points last year for Columbus. That's second line scoring. But also a career high. A crap year for Phillie - 16 points in 53 games, but also seemingly a aberration. He's actually about a 40 point guy. Similar to Frolik.
His contract is about right actually.

Let’s dig a layer deeper. He scored most of those pts in CLB on the PP which was abnormally high. If he was having the same effect on the Van PP this year I say do it but that appeared to be a one off. He played on the 4th line 5 on 5 most of last year.
Unlike Frolik he doesn’t not offer any 2 way play and is an undersized forward. If we want to pay north of $3M for an undersized offensive specialist that is only good for .5ppg then I am concerned.
I would trade Brouwer for him in hopes of improving the PP but no way I give up positive assets for him

Pp help isn't such a bad thing...
If the pp was half decent I'd bet the flames would have won at least half of the last 6 game...
The flames don't have a top of assets for a top 6 winger at the prices being floated unless it's a high roster player (like a Brodie for example and even then he's not been great of late)

Byron would be a nice pick up for the bottom six. Speed, grit and depth scoring.
Of course the optics would be ugly paying a price to re-acquire someone you lost on waivers, but if it were to make the team better and not cost a lot then I'm not against it.

This is the list from Montreal...
Johnson and Snow are the Flames analytics guys. I wonder how often they do live scouting.
