Doesn't matter to me. Patches has 1 year left on his deal, and is then a UFA north of 30. Brodie has 3 years left on his deal.
- Edit. Whoops, Brodie only has 2 left after this year.
Brodie > Patches > Lazar = Benn
and if Brodie is leaving the line-up, our left side D is utterly ravaged. Kulak and Benn are both bottom pairing defenders.

I thought that about Kulak, but I think he's beginning to grow into a potential 4.
What forward in the league is the equivalent of Brodie (wrong side of 25, good contract, good at some stuff, but with significant holes in the game).

In fairness, I did think Brodie's contract was up after next year.
However, Brodie has 2 years and Pacioretty has 1 after this season.

This team needs a goal scorer more than Brodie and 60% of the games this year TJ has been garbage playing the left side so it's already ravaged.

I don't see the same in Kulak. Kylington needs more time in the AHL (although is getting close), and we don't have access to Valimaki this year - who we also shouldn't be rushing. Subtracting Brodie right now just seems like a bad idea.
As far as value is concerned..
As far as organizational importance goes for skaters, I view things as Centre > Defenceman > Winger.
So with that in mind (defender > winger) someone like Jordan Eberle with a slight add or Gabriel Landeskog (add to Brodie to get Landy). That said, I don't particularly want either player.
But, trading a defenceman for a winger just isn't something Calgary should be doing right now as we should not be subtracting from our NHL depth. The only way trading a d-man makes sense to me is if we're subtracting 1 or 2 from the prospect pool (preferably not Fox, unless signing Fox becomes an issue).
If we want to move Brodie, do it in the off-season when we can then make a depth signing or give Kylington/Valimaki a better look in exhibition. Treliving just went out and built the defensive depth at the NHL level, and I think moving Brodie is too damaging for this season.

I will take Kulak or Benn over Brodie in the top 4 any single day. There was about a ten game stretch recently where Brodie was pretty good but the rest has been a nightmare in his own end. The guy has literally cost us games this year with the most unbelievable bad giveaways. I want Brodie to be that guy I saw for ten games all the time because he would be such a great asset but it has become apparent over the past two years it isn't happening consistently. This team needs to move away from Brodie while his value is still good.

Jordie Benn is terrible, guys. Brodie is the much better defenceman

Lazar is terrible though too, Pacioretty is the far superior forward.
It's not trading Brodie for Benn, it's trading Brodie for Pacioretty and then evening out the positions a bit.
But honestly, doubt Montreal makes that deal. Brodie's not a spring-chicken, if they are moving their best forward it's probably to signal a rebuild and the way Brodie has been playing, it just doesn't make sense to give up their best tradeable asset for him.

If you guys hate TJ Brodie, man oh man will you ever despise Benn.
He is not very good on his best day, and he is a healthy scratch tonight due to his struggles this season. Do not want.

I'm not referring to any particular proposed trade, but to those saying that Benn is underrated or that they would rather have him than Brodie. Benn is terrible.

we get worse at a way more important position though. It's just a bad idea.
And to your point, it's likely not what Montreal even wants. They have to rebuild with younger players.

Do you consider Eberle to be an upgrade on Pacioretty? Right winger, maybe makes him a bit more of a target for the Flames, but in terms of value, Patches has to be worth more. And I would suggest significantly more.
Even in Pacioretty's down year this year, he has a single goal less than Eberle. Last year Eberle put up 20 goals and 51 points, Pacioretty put up 35 goals and 67 points. Pacioretty is still leading his team in scoring this year, and if that remains true it will be the 7th year in a row that he does. He's been the Canadiens offense for the better part of a decade. Eberle's been a complimentary player, oftentimes even on his own line. He's currently 5th in scoring for the Islanders. Over the last 3 seasons Patches has 162 points, Eberle has 137.
Eberle's a single year younger, but being paid 1.5M more with the same term.

Lazar has negative value.
He wouldn't get claimed if he was waived.
He has less value than Freddie Hamilton had.

In my opinion Hoffman is a good forward comparable to Brodie.
Similar age, remaining term and cap value.
Both have a high end skill set with some deficiencies to their overall game.
Some will argue that a defenceman is worth more than a winger but to me Brodie for Hoffman is close to fair value.
I believe that's the sort of deal BT will be more inclined to do in the offseason rather than this TDL as it opens up a massive hole on D. With another 40-50 NHL games for Kulak and potentially another look at Rasmus BT may get comfortable enough with our defensive depth to pull the trigger on a trade for the goal scoring forward he's been quite open about wanting.

Insider trading:
https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider...oretty~1315228
Trade isn't option for Sedins who are in final year of contract (full NMC).
Canucks won't know Sedins' intentions for next season before trade deadline.
They will want to reflect during the offseason before making a decision.
Even though the assumption is that it is a foregone conclusion Canucks will trade pending UFA Gudbranson, Canucks first priority is to negotiate a multi-year extension.
If the Canucks can't re-sign him, then they will trade him and they are getting plenty of interest on Gudbranson
Lebrun: I suspect Canadiens will take calls on Pacioretty until the final minute of the trade deadline.
It is NOT a lock that the Habs will trade Pacioretty. They may keep him through the deadline.
Asking price for Pacioretty includes a young center they can build around as part of the package. Otherwise they are happy to keep him.
Habs need to make a decision on pending Plekanec.
While it seems likely they move him before deadline, there is a chance they re-sign him.

I think Bennett probably has a lot more trade value than Jankowski.
Rightfully so? I don't know.
