It does work. It's not that crazy. That line-up doesn't even factor in Andersson or Fox on cheaper deals, but yes - does require 1 of Rittich/Parsons/Gillies being a starting goalie.
I agree it works and those are some pretty conservative numbers.

Tkachuk making more than Gaudreau and Giordano likely doesn't happen. And there's 0 chance Ferland makes 5M. It would take an exceptional end of the season for Jankowski to make 3M, but likely will get closer to Ferland's 1.75M bridge contract. Bennett's next contract would also require a significant improvement next year.

The difference there would allow the Flames to get a 23rd person on a roster spot and a starting goalie if needed.

Even the cap ceiling is realtively conservative (but probably a good bet) given Bettman's BoG talk. He said that the ceiling could be as high as 82M next year.

Yeah, I figured I was being pretty generous on the player's side, but who knows how things shake out thanks to McDavid raising the bar for everyone.

Salary wise, it works. On the ice, it's the best roster I can imagine us putting out there. If it fails, we've also got plenty of player to sell off in a massive re-tool or rebuild (if it goes THAT poorly).

If we see something like this happen, I think it'd be great. There'd be an initial outcry from some posters over the "high price" - but it would be hard not to sit back and think "holy crap, here we go!" and be really excited about it as a fan.

If they land Kyrou, I think it would be a big step in the right direction for Montreal. They need to build things back up, and I think Kyrou would be a solid way to kick that off.

Not that he's a bad player, just an element to his game is missing that I value more than most I guess. If he was as physical as his brother, I'd be sold.
OT, but frankly, Michael isn't as physical as I expected or hoped as a D-man. He's easily third in that department behind Gio and Hamonic, and there's not much difference in his physical play versus Kulak or Hamilton (who would be a beast if he was harder on the opposition).

On topic, I don't need a big offensive forward to be a hitter. But I do like ones that use their size to advantage, like Jagr, Thornton, Malkin, etc. I'm hoping Jankowski will develop that way.

Prior to this year, only Tarensenko's 103 even strength goals bested Pacioretty’s 102 since the 2013-2014 season (Ovechkin had 102 as well).

Since the last lockout in 2012, only Ovechkin, Kane, Crosby and Tavares (all first overalls incidentally) have more goals.

He's one of the best goal scorers in the league and has a very reasonable 4.5M cap hit this year and next. He's also still on the right side of 30. Could be a very good pickup for someone.

I wish the Flames would pick him up. I think he would be a fantastic addition to the team,as i have stated before.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Tkachuk
Ferland-Backlund-Frolik
Pacioretty-Jankowski-Bennett
Hathaway-Slajan-Brouwer
Lazar

But those lines...

Pacioretty does not join a team and play bottom 6 minutes... I think he would actually look great with Backs and Fro.

Johnny - Monny - Tkachuk
Pacioretty - Backlund- Frolik
Ferland - Jankowski - Hathaway
Mangiapane- Brouwer - Lomberg
(Brouwer as Center since thats where GG keeps putting him in key situations on the PK)

That would be one helluva forward group.

If defensive efforts/play were properly represented and appreciated by the media then Stone would be right up there being top 5 in Selke voting if not better.

Edit: Knew he was close last year, forgot he actually got 6th behind an underperforming Toews. Still stand by my point that he's that good of a two way winger.

You are missing Bennett.

I just think Backlund and Frolic are defensive forwards and Ferland will mesh will with them.

In my opinion, with the lines I proposed, Lines 1-3 should be getting very similar ice-times. I think the Flames roll with Top 9 with the line that is clicking the most gets the most ice-time.

Johnny - Monny - Pacioretty
Tkachuk - Backlund- Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Ferland
Hathaway - Stajan - Lomberg

Lazar, Mangiapane, Brouwer

You would also still need to find a spot for Versteeg when he returns.

Edit: Just realized I forgot Brouwer. Odd that it made the lines look slightly better..

These are solid. I dont think minutes are big issue even if you did Pacioretty on a 3rd line. The forward lines on this team are distributed pretty even anyways and he would get #1 PP time anyways.

Cool, we’re getting Pacioretty for free!? Awesome!

Any deal for a bonafide top 6 with term likely includes someone like Bennett.

Unlikely.

Duchene, Turris trades involved a 1st round pick and NHL ready prospects. Not young, contributing NHL roster players.

What do people think of this deal?

Pacioretty and Benn
For
Brodie and Lazar

Probably not the deal the Habs want for Patches but they get a young Centre and top pairing LHD.

Flames get a scoring winger and physical bottom pair Dthst could likely play with Hamonic if needed.

I'd do it. Benn is underrrated. Brodie has hit his ceiling here IMO. Patches is okay in a particular role. Lazar is a throw in - not sure why they would want him.

If Brodie is going out, then I'd target a younger forward than Patches.

There's less than a 2 year age difference.

Both use to be highly regarded by their franchises but underappreciated by the league. Both struggling this year (although Brodie much moreso). Contracts are similar. I think this is about as equal value you'll find.

Benn, however, is more valuable than Lazar. He's getting top four minutes and second pairing PK. He'd make a good bottom pairing guy going forward.

Flames get a little bit older, so not ideal, but certainly not a gif worthy reaction.

Brodie's 27, Patches is 29.
