Actually the Flames powerplay was brutal during that stretch. I remember Johnson experimenting by putting Tim Hunter and Gino Cavallini both in front of the net to screen to shake things up.

Later that year they acquired Joey Mullen which helped the powerplay considerably!

1998-99: Is there even a single professional goalie left in the world who can play, and won't get injured??

In 97-98, just being a Flames fan at all likely meant you were alone.

2003 - Kiprusoff? He is a third string goalie - couldn’t we get Nabokov or Toskala?

Well CP existed then and while it's not available online anymore, the reactions on acquiring Kipper were mostly warm, not ecstatic, but something had to be done to replace Turek's minutes. At that point we were pretty much used to lost seasons so acquiring Kiprusoff was kind of a non-event.

I'm sure some posters predicted a Stanley Cup Finals appearance but I doubt any were willing to put up their first-borns on it.

It existed then too. I even started a thread about how if I stubbed my toe Greg Gilbert should take the blame. As a Gilbert supporter, I was being sarcastic, but as it turned out, the CP faithful were right in blasting me out of the forum on that one. We should have fired Gilbert and kept Savard. Take notes, Gulutzan apologists haha.

2004 Round 1-Man, I can't believe Martin Gelinas eliminated the Canucks in overtime of game 7! There's no way he'll continue to eliminate other teams in the playoffs though.

Flames one of five NHL teams bidding for highly-sought College Free Agent Adam Oates.

"We'll never get him. Those guys always seen to end up in Detroit."

But we did get highly regarded and sought after goalie Rick Kosti. What a coup! Elite goalies are so much more important than a tiny, soft forward like Oates anyway.

(1988) Trade: Flames Trade Bozek/Hull to STL for Ramage/Wamsley

"Speedy Stevie B?!? NOOOO!!!"

"Wamsley?!? WTF? Great. Now we'll never get to see Dadswell's full potential."

"I can't believe they traded Brett Hull. Mark my words: This kid is going to be something."

"^Meh. He's pudgy and lazy. And he ain't his dad. No biggie."

1985/1986: Genius move to trade Rich Kromm & Steve Konroyd to the Isles for John Tonelli. Look out Edmonton we’re in it to scrap the “hat-trick fever” being promoted in Oilers land.

1991 Game 7 vs Oilers game thread: ha ha ha stupid Oilers! Reichel, Nieuwendyk, Fleury 3-0 Flames early in the 1st period! SUCK IT OILERS!!!!!........later.......Damn I hate Esa Tikkanen. Like who names their kid Esa? So dumb.

1994: Was that Reichel goal in. Nice effort by McLean but I wonder if it crossed the line???

1996: Stop pounding your chest Joe Murphy. Great you swept us, but grow up! By the way that guy wearing Jim Peplinski’s old #24, Jarome Iginla look not bad. Wonder if he will make the team or not next year?

Arena negotiation discussion. UPD: Flames release their proposal

"
I may be in the minority here, but I'm perfectly fine with our Stampede Corral (though the beer could be a bit cheaper and lines a bit shorter). Just say NO to big public-funded arena!

They really should be cutting out parts of that video "You can't stop a Flame when it's Red Hot" and start showing that on the jumbotron.

Might be corny but those were good times...sometimes does good to reminisce.
