Kristen Odland @Kristen_Odland
Brad Treliving on the Dalton Prout/Eddie Lack deal: "This gave us an opportunity to give Eddie an opportunity elsewhere. David (Rittich) has played well. Jon Gillies is playing well in Stockton. This will open up a spot for Tyler Parsons (at the #AHL level)."
Kristen Odland @Kristen_Odland
Treliving said plan all along was to get him some games at the ECHL level, then get him to Stockton. Parsons is currently recovering from a minor lower body injury. "That'll be the plan, to get him up here (in the #AHL) shortly."

Wouldn't shock me if Prout replaces Bartowski at some point. He's likely terrible but he can fight at least.
Did someone get hurt in the Devils org? Or did they just want Lack because they don't trust their AHL guys if they have an injury with the big team after they traded Wedgewood?

This is what we need. Better than having harmonic do all the fighting.Time to trade Stone and get rid of Bart.

Treliving on Prout: "Dalton is a guy we're familiar with. He hasn't played a whole lot lately. He's spent his career in Columbus and was traded to Jersey at the deadline last year. With him getting through waivers that allows him to get up to Stockton and get going."

The Devils goalie coach was the one in Vancouver when Lack was actually good.
Probably think they can rebuild his game.

Dean Molberg @fan960boomer
Mason McDonald will join the Heat in the short term. Good news for Parsons is he should be ready to go by early next week.

this kind of move probably wouldn't have happened if Rittich hadn't come in and killed it.
I like it. Freeing an AHL spot for Parsons is a good move in my book.

Rollie Melanson is the Devils' goalie coach. He was with the Canucks early in Lack's career.
The Devils' AHL team is not having a great season. They're currently 28th overall, so they're probably looking for a shakeup there.

I have no idea who Dalton Prout is, but given that Eddie Lack lost his job in Calgary as a backup to David Riitich already and he's just taking the ice time for our goalie prospect I would say this is a good deal for the Flames. Even if Prout doesn't play for the Flames, i am good with this trade. It just means Tyler Parsons will get more experience in Stockton.

Did Lack ever play with Schneider before in Vancouver?

Is Prout any better at hockey than bartkowski? Great that he can stand up to Lucic but that also means he'll be playing against McDavid. Not that Bartkowski is ideal against that line either.

Frees the minor league goalie logjam, if nothing else. Sensible move.

Yeah - this is a pretty big signal they are confident Rittich is the real deal and will keep the job.

Seems like a good move all around. Reuniting Eddie with his buddy Schneider in NJ, freeing up some cap space for us and....well I cant intelligently comment on Prout as I literally know nothing about him, but the loss of Lack opens a spot for up-and-comers within our own system which is also a benefit.

Doesn't matter, he's not displacing Keith Kinkaid. Guy is a very solid backup.

This deal makes alot of sense.
Lack lost the confidence of the team and the job. Moving him opens up an AHL roster spot for Parsons to gain experience working in tandem with Gillies. Riitich is now entrenched as the back-up with the Flames. We're set at the NHL level with 2 great prospects learning their craft in the minors.
Prout is a big right shot d man that will drop them with anyone. We lost a good deal of toughness on the back end when Engelland moved on, so we get that back. With or without subsequent deals Prout likely works in as the 6 or 7 d man for the Flames in the coming weeks.
