Is there a more cushy $3 million a year job anywhere in any sport than what Brian Burke has?

Are we excluding the Oilers front office in this conversation?

That is how you win in the new NHL. Need more small skilled forwards and need to ditch the big lumbering stone hand guys.

No place for this guy in the new NHL?

Is that what he makes??? Really?
There are posters on this board that spend more time on the Fkanes than he does. Let’s not pretend he is CEO of a multinational corporation.
How many employees in hockey operations, including the players? Less than 200 certainly.

Also, too many soft defencemen that play average at best.
There needs to be changes in how this team is fundamentally built or we can expect more of the same mediocrity.

Treliving has been here for 3 years. Why don't you give some actual examples of what he should have done in that time to completely revamp this team how you see fit.

Honestly, this is part of what makes being a fan so frustrating. I had a lot of optimism going into the season, I liked our roster and think that Treliving did a good job of putting together a solid team espcially with he acquisition of Hamonic and Smith and the signing of Stone.
I thought the GM did his job well. But I'm just not impressed at all with what they're delivering on the ice.
And I think about it more and more and it reminds me of the Sutters tenure.
I thought Darryl put together an impressive roster but Brent just drove it into the ground.
Its like rinse, wash, repeat except replace Darryl with Treliving and Brent with Gulutzan.
Just wait for the 5 Defenceman Powerplay.

I agree. This team on paper should be a lot better than it is. That's what makes me believe a coaching change would be the best shake up. Obviously Treliving brought in Gulutzan so he may be reluctant to fire him. He was able to turn the team around last year so maybe they are hoping to see that again but I think we've seen enough of Gulutzan to be able to determine that he isn't the guy for this team long term. Finding the right coach to take over though is a whole different issue. There's no point in firing Gultuzan at this point if you don't think you can bring in the right coach. I would definitely like to see them try a new coach with this group first though before making any major roster changes.

The Flames fired the wrong Sutter that time. Brent should have been gone, Darryl should have resumed coaching duties, and a new GM should have been signed.

What does Burke do? Honest question, is he even around anymore? It feels like nobody from management or ownership has been talked to in like 6 months but that might just be my apathy and missing an interview haha.
Like does Burke still work for the Flames even? If he does it’s tough to know what his job entails?

I wish we did have the old Burke but he left his balls somewhere between Anahiem and Toronto or Calgary. Been a long time since he's gone on a rant.

He is President of Hockey Operations so yeah he is ultimately the person responsible for the on ice product.

To start with, he should have traded Gaudreau and Brodie for the best players he could find that hate to lose. If none available for them, then acquire draft picks and find them that way. Both replacements should be big enough to compete against big teams in their division.
Brouwer and Stajan should be placed on waivers. Replace them with players that can contribute something to this team, even if it's by promoting from the farm.
There needs to be a message sent to the players that it isn't going to be a country club anymore.

What about the nacho vendor? What about Harvey he just isn't as energetic as he has been. What about the heroin beer? I hear it is getting watered down. What else can we find to add to the witch hunt?

Burke is going to get to hire more than 1 GM before he moves on from Calgary unless he wants to move on.
I think Burke is far more involved behind the scenes but those wanting him gone are lilely going to have to wait or hope that he retires. If Treliving gets another coach hire Burke is going to get 1-2 more GM hires before he is at risk

I think to get any change, the Flames need wholesale management change. Big change to correct a bunch of cumulative ineffective and costly changes. If anything, fire King and Burke for the debacle on the arena negotiations during the Civic election. I really couldn't care less about King, Burke, and Treliving right now. Either King and/or Burke is redundant in the organisation.

Have you seen all the tables they have placed in the concourse? The Saddledome concourse is a giant gong show to begin with and someone in their infinite wisdom decided it would be a good idea to clog it up some more...
Sorry.... that was off topic. FIRE Gulutzan!

It’s the ushers! They just don’t have that same care and passion, so their malaise trickles down to fans being seated and ultimately to players and their performance on the ice.

Brouwer is big though...
You do not have to be big to win in the NHL
Tampa Bay does not really have any big forwards outside of Killorn
Pittsburgh does not really have any big forwards in their top 9
Nashville has Fiala, Arvidsson and Turris in their top 6 and none of them are big. Nashville has 3 dmen under 6'1 in their top 4.
Size is not an issue and is not a determinative factor for success in the modern NHL.
