I don't believe most of those people that thanked really believe he's the answer deep down. There are posters that have an overly positive nature and always hope for the best and you also have the mods that for the most part tow the company line. I'm not criticizing those posters because everyone should be free to cheer as they feel and plenty have a tough time dealing with posters they feel are negative. I knew the moment he was hired he was likely never going to be the guy but that doesn't mean I haven't hoped I was wrong. I would support him if he could get this team playing up to it's talent but it's just not happening and this is not a season the team can afford to miss the playoffs. A lot of posters are still hoping that with every win the team is finally turning things around despite the fact that the pattern of good/bad play has been the only pattern under Gulutzan in 1.5 seasons. I don't think even the most positive posters can deny that the team has been mired in mediocrity for most of his term as head coach as they are a below .500 team in regulation play in his time here.

Apologies if this has already been addressed somewhere in this long thread.
Darryl Sutter remains under contract with LA if I'm not mistaken. Wouldn't Calgary need their permission if they wished to employ him?

It would just be formality. No team in their right mind would deny a fired coach an opportunity elsewhere, that would make their organization look petty and mickey mouse to potential future hires.

He didn’t call him out. He accurately described the play and who made the mistake.

Yes. Just like Calgary gave LA permission to hire Darryl when he was under contract here.

Admittedly, this is me. Despite not having nearly as many W’s as most expected by this point of the season I took solace in the fact that in a lot of their losses they’ve still had very solid underlying numbers, last night not included. Every time we get a solid win I think “this is it, they’ve turned the corner,” only to be disappointed again a few days later. I want to believe that Gulutzan is a good coach, and I hope for it every game but I can no longer deny the fact that outside one miracle run last year, the team has been remarkably average under Gulutzan. Times running for him to get the team firing on all cylinders or find someone who can prevent the Isles from getting a lottery pick.

I rarely am able to hear any Gulutzen media comments. Is it unusual that he named the player that made a mistake?

Think you could toss the old poll up? Just for curiosity sake, it would be nice to know what the split is.

Well, he is on record for saying he does not talk to the team after the game. Guess he talked at one player through the press.

Yeah as a fan you always hope for the best. I actually thought that coming into this season he would have this team in a better place. He’s a smart guy and seems likeable so I don’t know why it can’t work but some guys simply make better assistant coaches as he’s missing that “it” factor that separates good head coaches from good assistants.

All team's fans want a coaching change here and there, but some are unjustified. Pens won with this coach. Ottawa went far, others have some other successes to show for.
What has GG done to deserve patience? He has never coached a team to .500 record in regulation.
So if there is no track record then what is it about GG that gets him more rope? What is there to like exactly?

Not exactly sure which thread this belongs so I will put it in the coaching discussion. Despite the brutal start last year the Flames are exactly 1 point better than theybwere this time last year (18-15-3 vs 18-16-2) and it took a 10 game streak to make the playoffs.
By Christmas last year the Flames responded from a 5-10-1 start with a 13-6-1 run. This year it seems like it is win 2 lose 1 win 3 lose 2 etc. last year we saw a team building and figuring it out. This year I am not sure what we are watching? A good possesion team that sucks on special teams?
Figure it out Brad. Flames miss the playoffs this year who knows what Burke will do? Would Treliving be safe?

I’m pretty confident that Dave Tippett will be the next head coach of the Flames. It’s only a matter of when.

Well, say what you want about his last few years in Arizona, has infinitely more winning pedigree than GG. Multiple division title, a couple of Conference Finals appearances, 8 seasons making post season, 6 without playoffs.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
I'd be fine with Tippett in an interim role to be re-assessed at season's end but no immediate multi year contract.

As has been discussed before, but Darryl has said he would be interested in coaching, including an up and coming team if it was the right fit.

Honest question, how often does that happen? The only intern tags I recall seeing is coaches who were already with an organization when a head coach is fired.
But I especially couldn't see it happening with a coach of Dave Tippett's pedigree. He's going to interview for a head coaching position and take it, not subject himself to an intern position.
There's no upside to that for him. Either we improve and he gets what he could have got anyways - A head coaching position. Or he can't get the team on his page in a few short months, isn't hired and has another strike against him in the hockey world.
