As I write this there are 8 teams between 27 and 31 points in the Western Conference. There is incredible league parity. CP seems to have got so negative lately and if we do not win every game someone should be fired or shot to the sun. By this analogy there would be coaches out of work in Vegas, SJ, Dallas, Vancouver, Minny, Calg, Chicago and Anaheim. Of course Colorado, Edmonton and AZ would have been long gone. And if they are all sitting with the same or similar records to us they must have quite a few like a Brodie, Hamilton, Brouwer, Stajan, Bennett, Hamonic, Kulak or whoever that needs to be traded, shot to the sun or whatever for the awful season they are having. Bottom line is that there are a lotof teams and players on those teams that are in the exact same position as the Flames are. This is parity under the Cap. We are not going to win every game. Every player is not going to play perfect every night. We just need to win more than we loose, cherish the wins and learn from the losses... but lets be a whole lot more positive on this Board. These players and coaches are human beings that all make mistakes but for the most part are trying their damnest every night out there. We need to chill a bit on CP.

As we get into the new year and the stretch to make the playoffs, coaching becomes even more important, not only in terms of system but how you manage things during a game. As has been pointed out numerous times GG is incapable or unwilling to make adjustments.
When was the last time anyone can recall GG clearly outcoaching the other guy? Never? That’s right.

When things are going well a coach can let the players do their thing, it's when things don't go well that you see the difference in good and bad coaches. Gulutzan literally does nothing when things go awry.
|
LOL..so the players themselves are not accountable to one another or themselves?
Allrighty then.
I guess its just symptomatic of todays culture. No one is accountable for their own actions and its ALWAYS someone else's fault. Just the way its done now.
Ridiculous.
Like I said...fire Gulutzan and the whole crew for all I care, but you could bring in Scotty Bowman in his prime, and you are still left with the softest and least caring group of players this city has ever seen wear the flaming C.
It's appalling.

I would expect the next coach to immediately put Brodie back on the proper side. It would happen right away. I would think he would look back on the last couple of seasons and instantly realize that that is when his game went south.

Absolutely the players are accountable. Problem is that the coach doesn't make them pay the price when they aren't. Coaching decisions matter.

That's nice, but there's no participation ribbons in pro sports.

Im curious how you would like that to manifest itself. Again i am not railing to keep the coach nor fire him, but i am so sick of people blaming everything else other than the players themselves.
This group, particularly, shows almost no emotion ever when they are losing...again its like they just dont care. If thats indeed the case...what the hell is a coach supposed to do about it?
I agree we should have seen some benchings by now with some guys. Brodie and Bennett especially. If thats what you are talking about OK, but Im not sure that is worthy of terminating a guys contract over.

This has nothing to do with not winning every game. This has everything to do with the Flames regularly looking like a terrible hockey team (that's being carried by their goaltender) with the occasional good game mixed in.

Lol. Pathetic. This isn't about winning every game, it's about winning games they should win, instead of crapping the bed regularly.
If you're happy winning on an odds basis, then you're not actually watching sports, or following a team.

Don't think you've got that right.....among the thinking people (I'll leave out the "just ranting" ones for now) the thinking is that GG cannot alter his tactics in-game, uses players poorly, admits to not line-matching even at home when he has the advantage, and persistently putting out zero-chance players in high-needs situations. And to top it off, the team is simply not ready to play in minute 1 of a game, more often than not.
That has nothing to do with parity. That is ALL on coaching.

Treliving owes every fan that has bought a ticket, every STH, every fan that stays at home & watches the games, every fan that gathers at a pub to support the Flames retribution. Own up to his decision that brought Gulutzan here and send his timid butt packing.
He owes his players a better leader than Gulutzan. Treliving should havd fired him after that embarrassment in round 1. Swept in round 1 was a franchise low but yet not once publicly anyways have i ever heard Treliving scrutinize his HC and Gulutzan has deserved public scrutiny as a result of his incompetent actions behind the bench.
Gulutzan was severely out coached but Treliving gave the HC and his entire weak staff another life line , fine a second chance was given but can anyone honestly say Gulutzan has shown improvement in his system, or even his demenure behind the bench? His mismanagement of personal during the games has cost wins.
Now Treliving needs to show this fan base and his players accountability by firing his golden boy.

Just like many people's jobs in this world, they have co-workers that don't hold up their end. These workers wish no I'll will against these co-workers, so nothing is said and for awhile some try to pick up a little bit of slack.just to keep everyone happy. This goes on for awhile. After enough picking up of the slack this worker has had enough of picking up the slack and decides #### it.
Now, first worker doesn't give a #### because somebody else is doing their job. Second worker has said #### it, why should I do it if he/she doesn't want to do it or give a ####.
With all this going on, a ####ty employer will not see what's happening around them. A good employer would have seen it before and it happened and made the changes.
That being said, I'm not pushing it to the extreme. It just makes me wonder why someone who does not give a #### like Brouwer gets chance after chance when someone that's just as ####ty but does give a #### like Bennett can't get a shot when he has a 2 goal game. Or stone after being a great trooper and signing as the 5th won't get a shot on the point, (pardon my pun) to get his shot off on the point.
I have had many employees and I have made mistakes. It comes from the top down. Being above .500 doesn't matter. It's time.for Treliving to step up and say he #### the bed on this hire.

Lead by example. Gulutzan needs to show emotion, get pissed off. Leading by example. That’s what the HC can do to get his players showing emotion. If they don’t, he can bench them.

Has GG ever actually admitted he didnt match lines? I mean that is the most basic coaching strategy. If so, its mind puzzling. My coaches in hockey from the time i was 12 years old started some semblance of matching lines.

GG said in an interview a couple months back he will not match lines. I think it was on 960 before a game.
