Hard to say, is he better than Gaudreau?
I think the days of Kane getting a steep contract are gone if he’s looking for term. I could see a deal under 6 if it’s 5+ years for sure.

Norm!

There's no way that he's going to sign before the end of the year at all, he's a guy that's going to test Free Agency, and if the cap jumps to 80+ somebody is going to blow their brains out to get him.

Except Kane is a UFA. Lots of players aren’t better than Gaudreau but there are many that get paid more than him.

I likely undervalued Kane in terms of signing him (although he has only scored 30 goals once and never plays a full season) but in trade value he is a UFA at the end of the season, and so a contract controlled Bennett has significant value for a team like Buffalo, unless you really believe his start to this year is the type of player he is.

No we will just leave him in minors and loose him to a team that will actually give him a chance next season. This is a trade.

That's true, and I low balled in my proposal, but I don't think (or I hope) no GM is dumb enough to give him anywhere close to 8mil per with term.

Lack doesn't belong in NHL so this is good news as I would have all but guaranteed a loss with him in net. I'm also all for giving Rittich and Gillies some playing time.

i don't see this as a precursor to a trade. Lack clears, gets sent down and plays the next week or two to get game action, then recalled

Good to see how quickly they addressed the issue instead of trying to make certain things work. Looks like BT gets it, expectations are high right now.

This makes me feel somewhat annoyed about acquiring Lack in the first place. Why even bother. I really hope they didn't get him because Gulutzan likes him... in part because I'd really like to think our head coach is a better judge of goalies.
And yeah, I hope they don't go spending assets to get another backup before seeing what they have in Rittich and/or Gillies.

I don't know, Chiapet did step up with the Lucic contract...and speaking of dumb moves, maybe he'll pick up Lack as their backup. That would be great!

He spent all his cap room, and should be a cautionary tale for the other GM's.

Schedule gaps notwithstanding, it was clear Gulutzan never really believed in Lack, as he gave him only two starts in two months, one of which he had no choice.
Sorry Eddy, but we need someone who can spell off Smith. And you ain't it.

At best I think it’s now a competition. If he goes down, gets his game together and proves he’s a better option then sure he comes back up. But until then he’s lost the job and has to fight for it.

in skill terms? Nope.
But what he does bring is what every team in the game covets. Size, speed, and a decent set of hands with a great shot and in his prime. His issues are off-ice, or at least have been. Sounds like he has figured that stuff out according to guys around the Sabres (Rob Ray was on with the morning guys yesterday) and may re-sign there.
He is having his best season as a pro, and makes 5.25 now. He is gonna want, and will almost assuredly get, a big raise.

He's not better than gaudreau but let's give the guy his due. The Kane of this year is different than the version you're describing.
On pace for 45 goals and 100 hits. Third in the league in shots.
He's going to get paid.
