The most helpful comments in these matters tend to come from MBates. He was in the news again last week. I've seen him in the court room, he has skills beyond most lawyers.

Justice De Wit tries to hint to the accused who was represented by MBates, that he stick with him:

"Defence lawyer Michael Bates was allowed to withdraw from the case Friday, after Worme said he no longer wanted him as his counsel.

Justice Willie de Wit urged Worme to reconsider, but after a last ditch meeting with Bates, Worme maintained he wanted to change lawyers.

“Mr. Bates is a very good counsel,” de Wit said, in asking the accused if he could attempt to reconcile with the lawyer.

“He has a very good reputation with the court.”

I'm sure there's a lot to that story MBates will never be able to tell...

OT but I wasn't aware he was a judge now. Do they say 'Tell them Willie boy is here' when he enters the court?

The clerk should do so. Remember 1984's Olympics? What a great story. de Wit is a great example that hard work, determination and ethics lead to good things in any field.

What I remember is the Smokin' Bert Cooper fight when Willie was the "Great White Hope".

I doubt that Willie even remembers that fight.

I’ll never forget it. Live on CBS I believe. From Regina?

I also recall his first fight against Ed the mechanic, a last second replacement.

Glad to hear Willie Boy is doing well.

What I remember is playing high school football against him. He played QB and when they ran a sweep and he ran the ball the guy was practically unstoppable. He'd straight arm you so hard it felt like your head was going to go down your throat and out the other end. The guy was a beast.

I was called to jury duty three years ago. A women from the sheriff's office served me at home and she was so rude. She pounded on door, immediately demanded to know where I worked and then gave me the summons. I get that some people might be rude when they get served, but that did not excuse the way she treated me like I committed some crime. I didn't complain or anything.

When I went to court, there was no room inside the courtroom so I was outside the room, but a sheriff told us that even though we were outside, it counted as if we were in the court. Well, he could at least relayed what the judge was saying. I no idea what was going on. I found out later the judge was asking people if they had any excuses to not be on the jury. Eventually, after enough people were excused I got in the courtroom. They put the remaining names in a hat and drew the first 12. I was number 3, but the defense attorney did not like the look of me and asked me to be excused. So I went home. It was a sexual assault case and I really did not want to hear the details.

Done it twice, both times as soon as I showed up the defense lawyer did a plea deal with the CP. Apparently a lot of times on these minor charges they'll wait to see if the witnesses even show, and when they do they realize it's a slam dunk guilty, so they just plea out.
