Just got a Special Edition issue of THN today in which they rank the top 50 for every NHL franchise. Here are the Flames.

1. Jarome Iginla

3. Theoren Fleury
4. Miikka Kiprusoff
5. Joe Nieuwendyk
6. Kent Nilsson
7. Mike Vernon
8. Gary Suter
9. Lanny McDonald
10. Gary Roberts
11. Hakan Loob
12. Joe Mullen
13. Mark Giordano
14. Doug Gilmour
15. Joel Otto
16. Tom Lysiak
17. Guy Chouinard
18. Dan Bouchard
19. Jim Peplinski
20. Eric Vail
21. Paul Reinhart
22. Robyn Regehr
23. Robert Reichel
24. Dion Phaneuf
25. Sergei Makarov
26. Johnny Gaudreau
27. Mikael Backlund
28. Bob MacMillan
29. Jamie Macoun
30. Reggie Lemelin
31. Craig Conroy
32. Colin Patterson
33. Willi Plett
34. Alex Tanguay
35. T.J. Brodie
36. Daymond Langkow
37. Sean Monahan
38. Mike Cammalleri
39. Jiri Hudler
40. Curtis Glencross
41. Cory Stillman
42. Randy Manery
43. Curt Bennett
44. Phil Housley
45. Bill Clement
46. Phil Russell
47. Ken Houston
48. Tim Hunter
49. Carey Wilson
50. Derek Morris

I'm not qualified to talk about the merits of most of these guys, but at first glance I'd say that Phaneuf seems rather high and Housley seems somewhat low.

St. Louis belongs nowhere near this list. If it was based on career, Jagr would be first.

I think that Martin Gelinas' omission is somewhat curious, though.

Bure had one good season with the Flames. Nylander didn't have a single good year with the Flames. Savard was pretty good for a single season. St. Louis was a marginal player with the Flames.

I agree that Phaneuf is too high. Glimour should probably be higher as he was very important to the cup win.

Pekka Rautakelio was an all star defenseman - though he only played a few seasons. Should he have made the list? Are there other guys who were all stars who didn't make it? Brad McCrimmin was very good as a Flame.

Obviously there will be lots of "no way x guy should be above y guy", but there's no way Mikael Backlund can be ahead of Craig Conroy.

Or Suter ahead of Lanny.

I like Iginla at the top.

Actually pretty good list. Would love to see a cp generated poll list similar for comparison. Housley maybe higher? Call me biased but i throw yelle on there lol.

Gaudreau should be WAY above Phaneuf.

Bure. Gelinas and Jordan Leopold should all garner consideration.

Gelinas scored two of the biggest goals in the history of the franchise. Having Hudler over him is awful

Lanny should be #1 for what he did for the franchise.

It's also a huge insult to have Kent Nilsson ahead of Lanny. Nilsson had a boat load of talent but was a very selfish player. He showed up (talent wise) when he felt like it and got the deserved nickname as the sometimes magic man

I'd have Sarge instead of Fatty Morris.

I liked Darren Haynes' list a hundred times more.

Haynes' list is the better of the two for sure.

Of note -- this is a list which includes players from the Atlanta days. Haynes' is strictly Calgary-only.

Thanks for sharing Scorp.

Lanny at #9 is incorrect. To this day still the face of the franchise to many, many fans. The Rushmore of the Flames is Lanny, Iginla, Fleury and MAcinnis, with some arguments for Vernon/KIprusoff.

I am sure someone can crunch some numbers that would show Lanny wasn't that great but that would not be telling the whole picture.

Agree that Gelinas needs to be on here. I have to go back and look at Randy Manery and Curt Bennett but they seem out of place. What about Mel Bridgman?

And Glencross on the list?
