I went Schweitzer, Jean.
In my opinion Kenny is a populist moron even if he parks the social issues. Jean isn't great. We will see where their platform ends up before I see if I can hold my nose and vote for Jean on Kenny.
If Jean and Kenny run a Bill Smith campaign, I'm out.
Now how do I cancel my UCP membership.

Just voted for Kenny. I originally liked Jean, as he seems like a genuine honest guy, but this entire race he's been so lacklustre.
I follow them both on social media, and it seems that Jean would say the same things that Kenney does, but a day later. To me at least, it seems that Kenney is already leading this party.

Schweitzer could actually win in a run off. Notley does not want to face Schweizer. She'd have a small chance against Kenney. Kenney is too repulsive to too many voters. Membership in the Alberta Party will skyrocket if Kenney wins.

Schweitzer needs to get to second place in order to win. How strong the rural support for Jean is will determine who makes it to the run off.
The whole leadership process in parties bugs me because True believers make up a much greater part of the party then the general electorate who votes for the party so Leadership candidates will swing toward more extreme options now that electability matters less than energize the base.

As an AP member, I am hoping for a Kenney win. Then the center will be more easily identifiable.

Won't be putting Kenney down because he would prefer the LGBTQ youth suicide rate increase.
I can at least believe Jean is a human being even if he is only slightly better

Will the Alberta party have any viable candidates outside of Clark's riding this time ?

Hard to say. I've been a bit disconnected for the last little while, but I do know they want to run a candidate in every riding if possible. Whether that's a paper candidate or not, I couldn't tell you. I do know however that there are strategic ridings they will put emphasis on. My guess is they're going to try and steal seats away from the NDP as their primary focus and challenge in their ridings that have more conservative leanings or don't like the amount of spending piling up. If Kenney gets elected it will probably have a positive effect on party membership.

Kenney is ok with the catholic schools teaching the following:
Catholic school boards, said the letter, will in no way accept any provincial curriculum that “promotes a contraceptive culture.” Nor will they recommend using condoms to prevent sexually transmitted infections. Condoms, said the letter, prevent “total” giving in sex.
Catholic schools, said the document, cannot teach anything positive about masturbation because it is “not part of God’s natural order.”
Oral sex? Anal sex? They’re equally forbidden, even to married heterosexual couples, because they waste seed and make sex about something other than procreation.
Any sexual acts not aimed directly at creating life, said the document “miss the mark.”
Nor, said the proposal, can Catholic schools endorse artificial reproductive technologies, because children only come “as a gift from God.”
Even teaching about consent is problematic.
“Legal consent is important,” reads the document. “But we guard against a reductionist view of our human sexuality that consent is the most important factor in decision-making.”
Perpetual chastity, it said, is the only option for people with “same-sex attraction.” Anything else would defy “God’s natural order.”
just on the sex education issue alone, I can't consider Kenney.

I've been in Jason Kenney's office.
It was frankly scary seeing the type reading material he is invested in that was strewn across his desk and coffee tables. Very Christian, conservative values type stuff.
I don't think that this is the guy you want running a province with two major progressive cities.

Schweitzer seems like a red Tory to me. One of his top priorities is to dole out hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to woman entrepreneurs to "close the gender pay gap" As a conservative I cannot support a candidate that wants to play the game of picking economic winners and losers based on identity politics.
That and some other comments of his has made me question if he knows which party he's running for.

What I hear inside this is you actually expect politicians to tell religious institutions how to believe. Call me crazy, but I think that’s crazy (ultimately that is the position that: we shouldn’t allow religious beliefs and freedoms).
For the record Jason Kenney’s position is not that he supports what they’re teaching, but that he supports their right to teach it.

I think Kenney gets in. I think he'll have a closer fight to get into power vs Notley than many expect because of his hardcore social conservative values.

Those "religious institutions" should probably stop accepting Public funds if they don't want the Public to have a say in their curriculum.

That is absolutely a different debate, but as it stands now we do have a catholic education system that is allowed to teach their beliefs. If the NDP wants to have that fight, then let them have it. Let's remember however that the Catholic School system is supported by Catholic Tax Payers.
As much as something might offend our beliefs, I think we should be careful in removing the freedom that we have in this province to have diverse beliefs. It seems nowadays there is a steam roller of "this is how it is" and everyone must conform. That's a hostile society IMO.

I could be wrong, but I really feel as though a lot of the UCP support base underestimate the number of voters who were put off by the merger. And despite the vocal opposition, the NDP still has a lot of support in this province, if this were not the case it’s unlikely the UCP merger would have needed to happen.
