Based on the fact that it took an injury to call Janko up.

If jankowski does well, i have no doubt a guy like Glass/F.Hamilton/Stajan get booted. If he doesn't do well, then there's a valid reason to send him down.
You're getting upset at the GM on a complete hypothetical you made up in your head?!?

Praise be to the gods! Only nine games too late but hey we will take. Go get em Janko!!
Also, if he sticks with the big lub like I think he will. My Jersey will in fact don his name and #. How cool is it going to be to have a Flames 77.

How long do you think he sticks with 77? Or will he switch to 17 like in Stockton?

Does Tkachuk stir it up after the whistle? Absolutely, but no one is going to target Johnny because Tkachuk is pissing them off. Backlund and Frolik have never had to drop the mitts. They may get into a few more shoving matches than they would with someone else on their line, but no one would oppose Johnny skating away from it, and Monahan is more than capable of holding his own in a scrum.
|
I'm not saying it's the only factor. That doesn't mean it's not a factor. Just a thought to discuss. It's not about dropping the mitts as much as keeping people away from the scrum. If Backlund and Frolik can both calm or hold 2-3 people away from Tkachuk vs the 1 that Monahan grabs could make a big difference for how Tkachuk feels playing. Nobody would blame Johnny for skating away. Id rather have him avoid it all together and have Tkachuk work with 3M on The job they do so well.

Ferland stirs it up too, and it's exactly what people want him doing on the top line, so why oppose Tkachuk doing it, when he provides much more skill?
|
Ferland and Tkachuk are different entities. Tkachuk is to make people mad. Ferland is supposed to be a physcial force with skill. He's supposed be taking guys to task for hacking at Johnny, while also contributing offensively, not necessarily starting ####. Hasn't been helping much in his supposed role since the 2015 playoffs IMO.

If anything, I'd think having Tkachuk out there with a target on his back draws more attention away from Johnny and Money, especially because Tkachuk is a dangerous offensive threat too.
|
Maybe you're right. I think Bennett is a better fit personally as someone that has high skill and angry physicality, but isn't exactly "getting under the skin". I don't doubt they would do well with Tkachuk. Just think he's a better fit where he is.

why?? Brouwer is playing about as good as he ever has in a flames uniform. Overpaid, sure, but if he keeps doing what he's doing, he's got a definite spot on the team.

IMO, if you switch Bennett and Ferland, it's perfect.
Then when Jagr is back...
Gaudreau-Monahan-Bennett
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Ferland-Jankowski-Jagr
Versteeg-Lazar-Brouwer

Which is exactly why I think Tkachuk should be up there instead of Ferland. He's not being a physical player, and he's not a top 6 forward that compliments the role. If Gaudreau/Monahan were Crosby, and can make Ferland score anyway still, then it wouldn't be as much of an issue, but they aren't, and Ferland doesn't have to the skill to make his own plays. He's bringing the line down. Make him play the checking role on the bottom two lines.

I have to ask...what has Bennett done to deserve a top line look?
He has been brutal thus far....why would that be rewarded?

I agree with this. Jagr would be good for Ferland and Janko and then Lazar benefits from playing with 2 vets that have produced in the league.

Confidence boost. He seems to be gripping his stick way too tight right now. He had some good chances in the slot last game and couldn't even get his shot off.

If I'm Gulutzan (Flames brass) I look at the best path to getting Bennett right between the ears. He looks like a guy trying to do too much, and wearing the burden of a pointless start.
His lower contract helps somewhat I'm sure, but they need to get him with the right combination to get his confidence back. That's why I got to the 3M line with him.
Simplify, play a clean game and let the play come to him.
A two point night from Bennett would fix a lot for him. Wish he would have gotten points on that Gaudreau/Lazar night because he was a big part of the play but kept getting third assists etc.

The value would be replacing him with Jagr once healthy again. Until then, yes, no point in sitting him....after that i don't want him playing much until he proves he can help the team in any way.
