well many years ago we would use the 'star wars' rule. if a young woman was born after the original star wars came out, she was too young. of course that was a long time ago...and star wars is now 30 years ago
I'm olde I guess

this is funny cause my wife's first kiss, when she was 14, was from a guy who was like mid 20's. I always bug her about it and she still says she can still smell the dill pickle chips he was eating
With that in mind, I have 27 year old friends who are still bar-stars and take home 18 year old girls. Of course I bug the hell out of them and throw in the reminder that when we graduated the girl was in Grade 3.
thirty something dating 20 something mmmmmm yah ok 20 something dating teen nope, not a chance

Prepare for her friends to hate you if you're significantly older as well. I think their nickanme for me was "Cradle Robbing *******" or something along those lines. Oh well, I'm still here and they've been out of the picture for a long time now.

There's a woman in my office who has a 14 year old daughter dating an 18 year old guy. I can't imagine what kind of loser this guy must be to date a 14 year old... what is that, a Grade 12 (or maybe graduated) guy dating a Grade 9er? I think I'd punch him out if I saw him just for that... gross.

Single mom... the kid is pretty much out of control, smoking, drinking, etc. I'm sure child services will be involved at some point... but I don't want to tell my co-worker that!

As women generally live longer than men, a much younger wife is going to be a widow for many years (or enter a second marriage).

bummer for both the mom and the daughter. Still think that even as a single mom or dad that you can raise your kids to understand the word "NO".

I remember when I was 19, there was a 15 year old girl that liked me and wanted to do me. I said no, but if the situation arose again and I went back in time, I'd let her! The older I get the more perverted I become.

As the older and very over protective brother of two younger sisters my age window for them is one year if my 18 year old sister came home with a 24 year old I would proceed to go to my backyard and dig a hole than grab my dad’s hunting guns, and well you know the rest…
Personally thought I don’t know because of the hole sister thing I like to keep my window pretty closed at least right now, I am 19 so I wouldn’t date anyone younger than 17 and anyone older than 21, mostly cause I still very immature, as time goes on I am sure that the window will open up

Essentially this is what I have to get over. I'm an overprotective brother as well (mind you for a younger brother so it's not the same as being over protective of a brother, and my God am I glad I don't have a sister! I'd be in jail right now I'm sure).
It's getting over the mental block of my brother's age and slightly younger.
People in this thread have made the natural assumption that if I'm 24 then 20 and under is fine, so the girl I'm talking about must be 18/19 or even maybe 17?
In reality, my lower age limit is 22, 22-25 is a very small window.
There isn't anyone I have in mind (the girls of CP sigh a collective relief) but starting to toy with the idea of opening the window to 20-25.
But to shift the thread again, the topic is
what is age gap is socially acceptable?
it's not a personal question, but on the whole what do people expect? habernac (I think it was) said something along the lines of 'if she's younger be prepared to be called a craddle robbing *******!' Why is that? What's the limit? Where's the standard?

Man, I think you are wayyyy over thinking things here. Do whatever the hell you want, who cares what anyone else thinks. At the end of the day you're the one that has to be happy.

Me?! Overthink?! No!!! Never!!!
Overthinking is what I do... you're right I'm the one who has to be happy with it, but I have to know why, hence the thread.

Had an idea!
|
Lets spin this around....is there something wrong with dating a girl that is 5 years older then you?
People talk about dating a girl 5 years younger then you....what about 5 years older?
And yes I know....in the end only love matters...
