wow, we have world class health care - I have to admit I did not know that.
I am guessing in world class health care minus one (or some other number) your wait for a publicly funded MRI is measured in 5 year blocks of time

Most of the world, most of the US, doesn't have the money to pay for an MRI, if your retirement and healthcare planning relies on winning the lottery then its going to be a sight longer than 5 years

Comments like these really piss me off.
We do have world class health care. Try getting sick in the states....
I was recently in the middle East and met a man who fought cancer and win.
All it took was him to sell his house, his cars, everything he owned just to have the chance to stay alive. Imagine working a hard labour job your entire life and building your home over 25 years and then losing it all.
Tonnes of stories like that from Americans as well. The amount of things people take for granted is pretty sickening.
Our health care system is great.

We have average healthcare for a first world country. As son as you compare us to the US or the Middle East you do a diservixe to our system. It is good but doesn't deliver as much value as other comparable systems on a per dollar spent basis.

It is world class. Even without comparing It to another country.

Calgary blood - tell me what metrics you are using.
Make no mistake, I am glad with have a socialized medical system, but I often wonder how much money is wasted in administration and whatnot and what can be done about wait times

Funny thing about the American health care system is they spend twice as much on health care (per capita) as we we do
(You can look it up for your self)

A lot is wasted on administration. 50 cents of every tax dollar collected in Alberta goes to health care. Probably similar rates federally. However Alberta spends the most on healthcare per capita after Newfoundland.

Per the above report administrative efficiency is one of our stronger areas of health delivery relative to the rest of the world. We are mid pack rather than bottom third.

Our healthcare is fine, but it's extremely overfunded when you take the current economic condition of Alberta into account

As boomers continue to age, get ready to be really surprised then. Not only do more patients require more direct costs, but all the administration costs will go crazy too. Who's going to pay for this once the boomers retire and don't make any income?

LOL I think you're confusing world class with free.
Our health care is average at best however the access to it is incredible.
There's a very big difference.

Actually access is quite poor, ahead of only the US amoung developed countries. Its probably the biggest weakness of our system.
Prescription drugs, Birth Control, Vision, Dental, Physio/recovery services beyond a minimal amount are all not coverd. I believe only about 50% of Canadian spending on health care services is covered by government.
Our access only looks good relative to the US.

Sorry I haven’t followed all the news for this closely but amazon has started running ads that they’re hiring in Denver. Saw a few on a national broadcast college football game tonight. Maybe unrelated to all this but it made me think of this thread.

That seems premature, as the RFP phase is open until Oct 19.

Yeah, anyone who thinks healthcare spending is going anywhere but up is delusional. Provincial finance ministers have been warning for years that with an aging population, health care spending is going to relentlessly devour every provincial budget in the country. Which is why it's so ridiculous when older Canadians complain about immigration. You know why Canada needs to bring in a quarter of a million new citizens a year? To help pay for the entitlement programs that Boomers never came close to funding during their working lives.

Amazon Flex. They are hiring people to deliver packages on a platform similar to Uber.

Maybe we need a Boomer tax so they can pay their way finally. Or at least an estate tax to get some of it after they die. We hear that Boomers have all this wealth, right?

Their children will be the beneficiaries of the greatest inter-generational wealth inheritance the world has seen. 30 trillion dollars in North America alone.
Which is nice if your parents are middle class or well-off. Not much of a consolation otherwise.
