I think Brouwer was better than Gaudreau last night. I think he had at least one scoring chance.

Worse than a 3rd for Bollig
Worse than 3 years to Raymond last one being a buyout
This is the worse move Tre has made and when he made it I questioned it mainly because we had so many dead weight contracts coming off the book this year and he was already in his 30's past his prime years.
I wish he wasn't on the team.

The eye test and certainly the analytics test disagrees.

Yea no .. Brouwer looked lost the whole game and it looked to me like he threw Bennett and Versteeg off their game. He seems to do that - whatever line he is on the other two players have to carry his anchor weight around the ice.

That's true.
Gaudreau was not as bad as Brouwer.
He was, however, no good at all himself. Played perimeter hockey all night, as did his linemates.
And sorry, Im looking way harder at that, than what Brouwer or Glass or any one else accomplished.
If your best players are not your best players, its really really difficult to be good enough to win in the NHL.
The top 2 lines need to get going before the most concern is shifted onto the lines below them. They were all dreadful.

McKenzie reports that Vegas wants to keep Garrison, Engelland, Schmidt, Theodore, Sbisa, and Miller on the blueline. This makes McNabb, Merrill, Reinhart, and Hunt available. Stoner is on IR.
What if the Flames trade Brouwer ($1.5M retained) for McNabb? He can replace Bartkowski as the #6, add toughness into the lineup, and we dump Brouwer! Retaining $1.5M of Brouwer's salary is the same cap hit to the Flames as buying him out but for 1 less year. Also, it frees up a 4th line spot for Lazar/Janko.
Brouwer at $3M for Vegas is a pretty good deal. The only question is Brouwer's NTC.

I do agree. Yesterday was uninspired hockey ~ we can't have another 2 wins in 10 type start but I'm willing to give them more than a Home opener in shelbyville before I start getting really choked.
Lots of good things to look at last night none more exciting than Smith and how he looked. Once this team gets going and motivated - with a goalie playing like that - we should be more than fine.

Brouwer will be traded for a Churro before he gets waived/sent down.

The Churro would also likely be on a bad contract itself.

How do you propose we do that?
With Jagr, the Flames are currently at 24 players, 1 over the 23-player limit.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Hathaway is the only player on the roster who has cleared waivers. That means we need to send Hathaway down before the next game, or move another player if we want to keep him.
Unless we waive Brouwer, or find a team to take him, the only other options are Lazar and Freddie, both of whom would have to go through waivers. Hathaway draws the short straw.
Out of Hathaway, Brouwer, Lazar, and Freddie, one has to come out to make room for Jagr, and we'd have to lose another one to make room for Janko. Glass and Stajan aren't going anywhere.

He's not getting sent down but thankfully Jager joining the team means that the play grave yard that is Troy Brouwers stick is going to be bringing down other 4th liners instead of the flames impact players

The part that pisses me off was, unless I'm misremembering, but when Brouwer was with the Hawks he always seemed like a real PITA to play against. I recall more than a few times him getting under Iginla's skin. That's what I was hoping he'd bring to the table.
Instead we get a big body that's passive, won't engage, won't stick up for his teammates and on top of it he wears a letter.
Christ. Gimme 10 Tanner Glasses before I'd take another Brouwer.

We'll still have Bartkowski, Stajan, and if he continues to suck, Brodie to be the replacement whipping boy if Brouwer was to leave.

Assuming Vegas even wants Brouwer, that would open a spot for either Lazar or Freddie, with Bart as the 8th d-man. Waiving Bart would allow us to call up either Hathaway or Janko.
I doubt Vegas takes that deal though.

Glass wasn't a bad signing...he was one of the better forwards last night. Low bar I know but at least he did his job. Janko and Glass could easily be on the roster

This, 100 times this. It's almost as if we need a ####ty contract quota to fill. God forbid we didn't have any obscene contracts.

I didn't even think it was possible for someone to consider a player signed at league minimum for one year a "bad contract" but I guess there's a first time for eveything.

No he wasn't he was awful. Hemmed in all night.
Worst CF% on the team at 23% confirms the eye test.

Well the excuse for Brouwer last year was a lingering injury.
Let's give it a few games before rendering a verdict for this year.
