We like to think people have to be mentally ill to murder strangers. They don't.

The question was about how many times the narrative of white men vs the others the poster stated were used in these kind of shooting events. The headline gives the answer.

This crime has all the earmarks of a terrorist incident, but the perpetrator is far from typical. This could be another Timothy McVeigh type incident. Even then, McVeigh was an angry young man. The shooter here is a retired accountant, who was fairly well off, lived with his girlfriend, and spent much of this time on luxury cruises playing poker.

I happened to watch the PBS documentary on the Oklahoma City bombing on Netflix yesterday, so when I saw this guy's profile this morning, the first thought that popped into my head was that the motives might be along those lines. I believe I saw mentioned somewhere that the town he lives in is just down the road from that Bundy enclave that had that situation a year or two ago. Not sure if that's true or not. Of course, McVeigh specifically targeted the govt which isn't the case here, but who knows with these weirdos.

Whites make up about 3/4 of the US population, while blacks account for about 13%. The percentage of mass shooters that are black is about equal to the percentage that blacks make up of the general population in the US. I cant google the stats right now but this isnt a hard stat to find.
The percentage of males do significantly outweigh females though when looking at mass shooters.

I think most people would say going on a suicidal murder spree in itself is enough to consider someone mentally ill. It's a matter of definitions of course, but I would say so.

Just saw in an msnbc report a chart with the shootings in the U.S. that have had the most victims. The top four took place in 2007, 2012, 2016 and now 2017. The next two were 1991 and 1984.
Reflections of a troubled time in U.S. history...

I picked up my best friend at the airport he was telling me that his brother had gone to the first two nights of the festival, but he and his date were supposed to go to the last night but they decided at the last minute not to go.
This was the same friend who's sister got caught in Irma.

Shooting incidents with the most victims not including the First Nations massacres of the 18th and 19th centuries.

i'm having a tough time listening or watching any US media coverage of this. The pundits are .... wow .... on both sides.
At best i'm scanning articles on several websites looking for actual stories on the incident, but tough to do with the politicization of this tragedy.

That's true. It's certainly not as bad as other terrible things that have taken place in the history of the U.S.. It's not comparable with genocide, but maybe it's indicative of something else. Troubles in the dominant classes and cultures?

the idea i think from piracy or shipping originally? basically flying a flag that is not the actual origin of the ship...
so for example, if country x was running a military operation, flying a 'false flag' would make it appear that they were part of one country or force when they were not...
basically a way to incite violence and then blame it on someone else.
in this case, that POS Jones implies that its an 'operation' of some sort to try banning assault rifles for example... which is exactly what that MF'er and his cohorts said about Newtown.
I'm not a religious person, but I hope I am wrong because he's a guy, and his ####head followers deserve eternal damnation.

My buddy just told me that his cousin and friend were at the concert. The friend was shot 5 times, all in the arms and legs. Luckily she's going to survive.

oh man... that's nuts.
Glad to hear they got out ok... just makes you sad for everyone that didn't make it
the shooter was about 400 yards away, so age, gender, hair color. race had nothing to do with...who lived and who died was just a random roll of the dice...even more than normal with these kind of shootings
