Cody Eakin has the first home goal for Vegas from Perron.
Engelland just fought MacDermid after a bit of a cheap hit.
It seems like Vegas is still figuring out the broadcast, the picture is way too bright, with most of the ice being pure white, and the sound seems to be out of sync. So they're on par with Sportsnet already at least!

Stars release RJ Umberger from his PTO.
Quote:
Umberger was let go from his professional tryout agreement by the Stars on Wednesday.
Umberger is facing a second straight year watching the NHL from home after he was unable to land a gig for the 2016-17 campaign as well. With no teams calling -- and the 35-year-old seemingly unwilling to sign overseas -- it may be time for him to consider hanging up his skates.

Blue Jackets release John Mitchell from his PTO.
Quote:
Mitchell's stint with Columbus was short-lived, as he was released from his tryout Wednesday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic Cleveland reports. Mitchell spent all of six days with the Blue Jackets, who may have just been trying to get insider information from his time with the rival Blackhawks. Unless he's willing to sign a minor-league deal or head overseas, the veteran center may have to consider retiring at this point.

Interesting thought
Although we already have a number of contracts accounted for, and not too much extra space to add a significant piece like Jagr

Rival??? For their 2 games per season??? WTF? Does the person who wrote this even know the divisions? That's the stupidest thing I've read in a while.

The only thing I can think is that they were part of Chicago’s division for a good decade before the realignment in 13/14 placed CBJ in the east.
That said I can’t remember any epic/mean games between these two teams - CBJ sucked for so long especially in that Division.

Guess not.
Yeah. That was a real doozy of a mistake from the CBS sports site.

Hischier scoring again, guess he is going to make it this year. How is Nolan Patrick doing?

Yeah. That Devils team will need him a lot. After all, having Taylor Hall as your only dangerous scoring threat won't get you very far.

Wasn't part of the deal with Carolina that the Flames had to buy Murphy out?

I doubt that Carolina cared what the Flames did with him but I could be wrong.

No, we just had to take the rest of his contract off their hands. Basically allowed them to save real dollars ($700,000 salary for Murphy) and the Flames to save cap space (137,500 buyoutcap hit for Murphy), both of which went into the retention on Eddie Lack (1,375,000 retained by the Hurricanes).
Flames essentially are paying ~1.25M less for Lack than his contract should be paid, and the Hurricanes essentially paying ~0.675M of Lack's salary to not play for them so they can play Darling/Ward.

Isn't Nolan Patrick recovering from Hernia surgery or something along those lines?

Every Philly writer I have read that is covering the Flyers training camp has Patrick in the Flyers top 6 on opening night. He has spent almost all of training camp playing with Wayne Simmonds so I'd bet he's good to go.
