Too late. That ship has sailed. Flames need a new spokesman.

Sure, why not? I'm sure there are plenty of business people interested in the future of the hockey team, or any other business who bring in over a $100M in spinoff business for that matter. Why wouldn't the CoC be interested?

As he made clear last week, there is no future. Cancel the lunch.

Unfortunately, the time for subtle appears to be long gone. This has turned into a full blown political showdown, and the Flames are rallying the one group they have in their corner. If anyone can pressure Nenshi to change his tune it's the business community as a whole. I suspect there will be some first class scaremongering in this session. "If it can happen to us, it can happen to you!" Likely followed with a call to circle the wagons. Yes, it's dumb, but completely predictable given the animosity between the two sides at the moment.

It's a good thing Ken King said he's not going to talk about the arena anymore.

They're going to have to eat fast because this is going to be a short lunch.

Does anyone know when this was scheduled? Normally the CoC schedules the bigger events fairly far out, and this one is considered substantial based on the room. Also some pretty big sponsors. Doesn't seem like a spur of the moment booking.

Which would make it even funnier.
"Greeting everyone....um, yeah, so.....yeah. Lunch adjourned!"

Or could tell you this was either a regular thing the CoC does, or the Flames saw this as a requirement long before the breakdown in negotiations. Either way, it should be an informative session.

Oh it'll be informative! Have you seen King's Pressers lately? They're very informative.
Its just the nature of that information that fluctuates.

I'd be fine with City fronts 50% cash + land + Saddledome demolition but must get a minimum 35% returned through property tax (3M/year x 35). That leaves about a 90M investment to the "public benefit".
But I have some "public benefit" demands:
1. CSEC must include a "Rockefeller" style outdoor skating rink along side the arena for public use.
2. One side of the arena's concourse adjacent to the outdoor rink is accessible to the public outside of event times.
3. Public would have access to this concourse section's washrooms and a couple of concessions would operate outside of event hours.
4. Majority of Flames memorabilia would be on this concourse to be visible to the public.
5. On this concourse there would be a glass wall open to the rest of the arena, so the public could see what the inside of the arena is like, view retired player and championship banners, etc.

Well I guess we can close this thread.
- The new arena file is closed. They are no longer perusing an new arena with the City of Calgary. Anyone who suggests that this part of the negotiation or posturing is wrong and that is aggravating.
