Well, except Coffey was 7 for his Oilers years and Bourque was 7 for his first 8 years with the Bruins until they retired Esposito's jersey. So career 77 is still open for a superstar??? Just kidding, both great 77's.

Jiri Hrdina wasn't all that bad for us. He was number 17. Actually pretty sure he won the Cup with us and then won 2 Cups in Pittsburgh. Played 5 or 6 years in the NHL and won 3 Stanley Cups, not to shabby

Better question:
Assuming Backlund re-ups, list your centre depth to open the 2019-20 season!

Monahan1-4
Backlund 2-4
Bennett 1-4
Janko1-4

I cannot say which line any of these will be playing, other than to say Backs won't be #1 line.
Our #1 center last year just can't help but be underrated

I'd like to see them try Jankowski with Backlund and Frolik

I sure hope not, Jankowski is a center.... Tkachuk is the winger for that line for sure.... They need the grit

There were more than a few comments last season that Tkachuk's aggressiveness forced Backlund and Frolik to engage in more scrums and up their physical games. As much as they have shown the ability to elevate other players it clearly works both ways with this trio. You don't mess with that.

I'm beginning to think Bennett and Johnny together is a good thing. Out of all the centres Bennett is the toughest and most likely to elbow shiver anyone that's hacking on johnny. I think johnny needs this badly and monahan just isn't that guy. Not selling monahans skill short by any means but his wingers need to be able to look after themselves

I was thinking this before camp started, but not now.

I have switched to wanting to see Lazar on the Backlund line

As to the OP question, yes - no question he has (so far) made the team. The only question is where to put him in the lineup.

Was hoping someone: Poirier, Lazar, Pribyl? would step up and run with a RW spot. But it hasn't happened. I think Lazar can be a good player on the defensive side, but we need another offensive RW.

So I'll throw it back out on the table. Jagr. It makes the lines so much deeper:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Bennett Jagr
Frolik - Backlund - Lazar
Versteeg - Jankowski - Brouwer
Stajan, Hathaway

With our D, and with good or even decent goaltending, that lineup can win the cup

I would have to think so. I knew he had a good season last year but man he has impressed me so far in camp and in the pre-season. He LOOKS like an NHLer on the ice. Not a rook. The combination of size and skill is impressive.
I'm trying not to get too excited but I think there are a number of x factors that will define how good the Flames can be in this upcoming 2-4 years.
I've considered these to be
1. How good will Sam be. If he can reach his potential it would be huge
2. Will one of Gillies or Parsons emerge as a true #1 and how good will they be?

I will now add the third
3. How good can Jankowski be?

If he can be a big, skilled second liner then whooo boy we've got something going on here kids.

With the arena debacle there is a bit of a cloud over this team - but we should allow ourselves to be excited about what is happening on the ice.

Hard to see him not making the team. Scoring every game and playing an all around good game. One of the best parts of the rebuild is the Flames have had an impact rookie in each of the past 4 years (Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett, Tkachuk) and I feel Jankowski has a chance to make it 5 years and rookies

Lol.

3M was our #1 line last year and one of the best in the NHL.

Not sure about winning the cup, but I would be on board with this.

And we still have terrible luck with 17s.

Also the #10 - yes, there's Roberts. Name a good Flames #10 from this century.
